Why is it that Hawthorn dominate the Crows at Adelaide Oval?

It's not the ground suiting Hawthorn's gameplan because if it was then Hawthorn would dominate the Power at Adelaide Oval as well.

FWIW the Power have a record of 3 wins 1 loss against Hawthorn at Adelaide Oval.

Sides get dominating runs against other sides at certain times across history. The Cats beat us virtually every time between '09 and '13. The Pies have beaten us once since the '11 PF. Carlton have beaten us once since '05. Our current domination of the Crows is far from confined to AO, we have now won 10 out of the last 11 times all up. These things get turned around eventually.

They’re our bogey team, it’s not just AO. All clubs have them.
And the Hawks are no bunnies, so it's no great insult.

Richmond seem to always struggle with the Bulldogs and North, regardless of ladder position. Whereas we actually have a pretty good record against Hawthorn, even during their premiership years.

Yeah Hawthorn for whatever reason are a massive bogey club for Adelaide. Their only win in recent memory came in 2017, and even that was closish when you consider the next 3 Hawthorn defeats were by more than 12 goals....

The crows were lifeless yesterday, they had no sense of urgency. Even the crowd was completely flat. Was a strange atmosphere watching on TV

Clarko is a coaching master. He gets the most out of all his players and can dissect game plans, implement structures to nullify strengths and counterattack.
You’d be happy if he was coaching your team.
To be at his level for the past 15 years shows he no flash in the pan.

Maybe Hawthorn are just better at football and it wouldn't matter what ground they were playing at.

Port Adelaide must be better at football than Hawthorn then.

Richmond have been the benchmark for the last 2 years and look like being the benchmark again this year, yet I won't be confident in tipping them to beat the Crows at Adelaide Oval this year and I wasn't last year either.

Maybe the title should be 'Hawthorn's record against the Crows' considering they've won 10 out of the last 11 against us...

It was only 2 years ago Adelaide beat Hawthorn at the MCG and they were very stiff to not beat them there the year prior in the game known for coining the 'Free Kick Hawthorn' phase.

Clarko , unlike a lot of the footy world doesn't seem to rate Adelaide's tall forwards AT ALL. We went into that game with what was arguably only one true KPD. This allows Clarko to structure up in a way that maximises our own share of the ball, and as long as you stop Eddie (which we've historically done a good job of), Adelaide end up looking like bunnies in the spotlight. Pressure their ball carriers when they enter the 50, let Sicily intercept the bombs, and go small enough that when the ball does get brought to ground we can run it out easily. It isn't that complicated , but for Pyke it does seem to be, which is probably why it keeps happening.

In the context of Hawthorn's form at the time, the fact that they only beat us by 4 goals was probably telling of how badly Adelaide go against us generally. The next week Gold Coast thumped us by 14 goals. Over the next 3 weeks , Saints thumped us by a similar margin down in Tassie, and we suffered our biggest loss to Geelong in many many years.

If you think you get atmosphere watching games on TV, you need to get out more.
If you can't hear any noise or you just hear murmurs you don't need to be there to know.

Though to be fair they had nothing much to get excited about.

Hawks last 10 v every club, very impressive
Gws always do us and you blokes have had good games against us even in our premiership years.
Unfortunately Brisbane have done us in last couple of times.

We've also dominated in the last 9 years and missed finals twice. And usually hung around top 4. So we usually tend to win I guess. Strange?

To be fair to Adelaide, Hawthorn still belted West Coast at the MCG during the horror stretch of form you speak of, but that says more about how bad West Coast are when playing Hawthorn at the MCG.

Yes, I was very disappointed our match against WC last year was scheduled at Marvel. Will be interesting to see if WCs new stadium has a long term impact on their MCG performances.
