I couldn't watch the first episode all the way through, if I recall. Not because it was bad, just that it was a bit raw.

Season 2 was probably at it's best towards the end once the pieces started fitting together, the build up in the beginning was more laborious than the slow-burning intrigue of season 1, and as has been stated, it ended up being pretty convoluted. It's still not as disastrous as its reputation would suggest though.

You forgot Vince's career ending performance

I still think season 2 wasn't as bad as people thought. Hard to go up against season 1. Whack a different title on the show and I reckon people would've thought it was solid.

Still holding out for a third season.

'True Detective' season one is my equal favourite series, along with 'Twin Peaks'.Well the David Lynch directed episodes of 'Twin Peaks' that is. One character that doesn't get much mention, but I thought was excellent, is the biker from episode 4, Ginger. As played by Joseph Sikora he had a strange otherwordly aura about him that fit in beautifully with the show's metaphysical aspect.

I missed Season 1 so watch Season 2 first. Thought it was good. Then went back and watched Season 1 and was like, 'Oh' ...

Season 1 will always have a special place in my heart. Season 2, bit more meh in comparison, although it was never going to live up to the first perhaps. That said, I'm still extremely bullish about more True Detective.

Season 2 struggled from being compared to season 1. It wasn't perfect by any means, but looked at in isolation it was still pretty good.

Season one spoiled everybody, it had a dreadedness and melancholy, and malevolence in it that the second series , which was brilliant couldn't compete with .
Like where do you get the menace and fear instilled in viewers by Billy Bob Thornton's character in Fargo 1. Even the terrible dental hygiene deprived mongrel in Fargo 3, couldn't match, and either could big brother Gerhardt in 2
but gee wiz he went close , menacing .

True Detective 1, I think will be very hard to ever get the same feel like that. In fact even the theme music "far from any road" still gives you the creeps at its brilliance and how it fit the show perfectly.

Actually I wonder if it was written for the show or picked up by the producers after hearing it?

I think the music didn't ring right in Fargo 3 what do others think?

It was rightly compared to season 1, its the same series, its no different to comparing seasons of American Horror Story for example.

Frankly I think they should just let it go, theyre leveraging off the name now. Happy to be proven wrong.

American Horror Story. ****, hard to believe that's even the same series anymore. I want it to die.

Hoped Milch would have a bigger writer role, but this is in a way better position to succeed than S2 ever was. Healthier time for Pizzolatto to actually write it, a more macabre setting than LA, Mahershala, and Saulnier who is easily one of the more exciting young directors going around.

Will be real cool to see it adopt the same traits as his films - escalating situations turn brutally violent.

I'd give it a go. Looking at the article with Mahershala Ali as the lead and Jeremy Saulnier to direct. From a base that is more appealing than what I felt going into season 2.

It honestly might be more appealing than Season 1.
