OK, I'm excited, now.

Yes looks very very promising. Hope its closer to the first, in what you want from it than the second.
The second was OK and that's it.

The first was unrepeatable, un doable again !
Probably the best piece of television I have ever seen, up there with all the gun shows, but better.

So they always had a massive bridge to get across to come up, close to it.

No.2 didn't, but this looks to be in the vein of the no.1 its got that dull nasty about it!

It looks morbid , sad , angry , intense, it feels just in that minute or so, like its sending you into the gutter of nutter criminal slime or the opportunist psycho, that showed up in the beginning of the first season, when they cops all felt really uncomfortable when they found the girls body,

"have you ever seen anything like this before???".

And the theme song, oh my god, how that fit, is just perfect .

So this looks good , really promising , I hope it gets closer than no. 2.

But there will never be a number one, again.

Its like Beethoven , only one was ever born on this planet.

I thought the setting was one of the main things that killed s2 in comparison

This will sound really odd but the setting in S01 almost become a character itself.

I remember reading about the setting for season 02 before it was released and it sounded cool but it was (from the article I read) supposed to be like the nasty outskirts of civilization in Cali, not a city.

Yeah it really lost something compared to the brooding, rural setting of s1. Just something unsettling about it which really worked with the subject matter of the show.

Exactly, it's that same feeling you get when you're alone in the forest. You hope you're alone but also that you're not.

You can feel it yourself when you travel in those outer limits of regional towns and down trodden people trying to fish or farm or have a low paying jobs and that's what S1 did to me.
I've been in places like that and it does have that feel, that poor down cast even the grey sky or the over bearing heat, and it gives that low life feeling off.
And low life people are the victims of the economy or their own bleak up bringing or just their surroundings are depressive, yes indeedy, S1 had that feeling, I listen to the theme sometimes and it can be creepy. That comment is no reflection on those people most are good people.

Now when you think about the stuff you can see about real detective work in Aus or the US or Britain on the doco channels , True Detective1 became a rather a frightening look at reality , from up close .
Courtesy of the the brilliant acting ( from everyone , bit players, back ups secondary characters and production of all behind the scenes of that show)
giving us the opportunity to be creeped out, by the things the two cops were feeling too.

In fact I doubt we will ever get that again on a TV show, I've never really experienced such art for TV, It's a hell of a job to get to the level of ONE but three might go close.

Just to add, the commercials advertising this show were bad and cold, just the look on the local cop that called the Detectives in. Just the ad had me.
Then WHACK!

Yep, I'm not sure anything could come close to quite recapturing S01, but if the show at least gets back to being closer to that (while being original, still, hopefully) it's going to be awesome.

I read that the first two episodes of season 3 are being directed by Jeremy Saulnier, which is a great choice.

Blue Ruin and Hold the Dark are two films with a really eerie and violent feeling to them; scarily realistic in showing the worst in people.

Given what we know about this show, I think it's the perfect fit.
