No, why would i be unhappy. When i bought my 360, HDMI was pretty much an unheard of interface. Without a HD DVD the lack of one impacts absolutely zero on my gaming experience. I still enjoy all my gaming in 1080P over component. To say it is obsolete because it doesn't have a port i don't need or really want is pretty ridiculous. But i'd expect nothing else from you karl

Except that with the extra data handling capabilities of HDMI, the 360 or PS3 is capable of upscaling regular DVD's on HD televisions. It isn't native 1080p, but it's still a much better picture than using components.

If there is any difference, it'd be so infinitely small that its barely noticeable. DVD upscaled is still upscaled standard definition video, no matter how you slice it..

When I buy a console, I expect there will be some components that may not be utilised immediately, but will be needed down the track. I suppose I just have higher expectations than you.

Well, one upscales, and one doesn't. Upscaled video is noticeable. Thus, there is a difference between HDMI and component cables, the degree of it is up for debate, but at the very least -

When I claimed there was a difference between HDMI and components, I was correct. You and beaumont were not.

But most 360's DON'T have HDMI. Mine does though. I wouldn't have bought it if it didn't.

They only brought in the HDMI cables in August last year. And they still aren't available on all models.

That's one of the biggest sooks Iv'e ever read. You can call it dross, but the fact is, you made claims that weren't true - and I enlightened you. Why it bothers you so much that you were wrong is a mystery to me. I've been wrong plenty of times, it's a good thing.

Still, HDMI > components. And thanks to me, you now know this.

Oh, and the only reason I've insulted people is in retaliation - it's not my fault a large portion of this board was living in fiaryland and spouting lies before I came here. Sorry if the truth can be a little confronting for you - you'll adjust eventually.

Bottom line, unless you're using your 360 to watch HD DVD, component will output a 1080P signal just fine guys. Enjoy your gaming :thumbsu:

This is false - it affects DVD upscaling as well. Mancey has chucked a tanty over it for some reason.

Just to clarify a few things

- The 360 can output 1080p over component, but keep in mind that some TVs won't accept a 1080p signal through component. My Samsung M8 accepts component 1080p and I think the current batch of Sony LCDs do as well
- All current 360 models support HDMI output, including the Arcade edition, just make sure if you're buying the 20GB version that the store isn't trying to clear out stock of the old version on you
- The attach rate for the HD-DVD add-on is around 2.5% in the US and less than 1% out here, i.e. nobody cares about it

Oh by the way, if HDMI is important to you, and if you're looking to buy a new 360, it'll have HDMI ports already as standard (unless you're budget conscious and buy the cheap older arcade console). :thumbsu:
