He lied to my face - Cochrane

Lol the same people laughing at the Suns and bagging them, still bag out Scully over the way he left Melbourne.

The fact Scully lied to a dying Jimmy Stynes is the reason many people are still mad at him..

Look he was very young and naive at the time, and got offered a bundle of money that no rational person could turn down. I would like to think that Scully would have done things differently if he had his time again, it isn't a hangable offense, but Jimmy was beloved by the Dees fanbase (and . Let of the AFL community in general), so for some, it's still a sore spot

The more I think about this the more annoyed I get at Cochrane. How many coaches have been sacked after "the full support of the board"? How many players have been delisted after similar statements, how many surprise trades that require you to uproot your family, etc? Man, what an entitled douche. Like every CEO really.

With respect. It's no different.
He was covering himself, as he should.

If the outrage over Scully is there then it should be the same for this bloke.

I reckon Scully was just ahead of his time - in hindsight it was pretty obvious he was leaving the moment he put talks off until the end of 2011 season (this would have been late 2010). Players getting 5 year $5 million deals didn't happen back then, nor did talented young players walk out after two years. Happens all the time now.

I don't even know what O'Meara sounds like, can't remember hearing him speak much to the media. I'm sure I have, but he's not memorable. If he was being interviewed on radio I wouldn't recognise who he was without an intro.

Tony Cochrane saying anything is pretty grating, though.

People believe Cochrane at his word with the s**t show that's been running up there? Look how they treated players leaving in the past few years, threating to refuse treatment for injured players, leaving players in the NEAFL, what do they expect a young player with the real threat of an injuring ruining his career to say knowing they would leave him out to dry?

Entitled attitude to believe a player owes a club x, specially when you were continually ******* it up.

I was kind of defending Scully in my post, I think he copped too harsh a treatment (in hindsight) for how left Melbourne.

And whilst I am not defending O'Meara either, Cochrane strikes me as bit of a p***k tbh, and someone who is more than capable of distorting facts to suit his agenda..

I honestly think he is a big reason why the Suns are in constant turmoil, the Giants chairman (whoever he is) seems to be doing a far better job, in just as hard conditions in Western Sydney (a soccer heartland)

How does airing dirty laundry like this help out the Suns in any way, shape or form ? Who would want to play for a club with Tony Soprano running the club?

The bloke is asked in a long form interview about it directly by Damo, what is he suppose to say that would appease the listening public and make sure they move onto a different topic?

I am no fan of Cochrane but the bloke I feel does cop a hard wrap for trying to stand up for a club that gets constantly targeted by the media and football nuffs in Melbourne non stop. Must be bloody hard work working in a high powered position at a club and see no one anywhere has anything good to say about your club. Hell being a Suns supporter in Melbourne is bloody hard enough haha.

Also I don't think he has as much power as some people here thinks he has. Mark Evans has been moved up there by the AFL, I imagine he is on a super short leash considering the AFL own the club.

Must of missed this, when did this happen? If you could link to something that would be great :)

I know in Jaegar's case we sent him to Nadal's knee specialist in Europe, he was hardly thrown to the side and we gave him every chance to get fit.

At what stage was he asked? Did he change his mind later? Two years is a lot of thinking time.

Cochrane seems like the type of person who demands instant solutions. Maybe O'Meara was undecided and just wanted to keep the peace.

Cochrane is the problem, clearly. This is not the sort of thing a CEO should make public. It's also pretty suss timing with their player being rubbed out for drug use. Distraction...…Look over here.
