Pretty obvious with this statement he wants to go back to WA

"I've made a decision, but I'm not going to make it public yet," Headland said after the game. "The club knows how I feel and they know what I want to do."

He may find it hard to find a club that can afford him out west, he can stop half way and stay at Port if he likes :D

WC can afford him with the likes of Matera and McIntosh going onto the old mans list.

Freo just signed up Haselby, Pavlich and have Francis coming in next season.

Freo simply dont have the cash unless they have a list of only 33 players.

Did you miss the boat? Francis and Freo have come to an agreement, and Francis won't be playing for Freo.

Where did you hear that anyway?

Ouch!

That one slipped my thoughts.

Regardless, you think Freo have room to move to make way for Headland?

Lets see... bye, bye

Fewster, Metro, Eastaugh, Shipp, Dodd, Norrish, Kickett etc...

Most of which are hacks and were getting way over-paid. So there will still be $$$ around.

But anyway I just ripped this straight off Dockerland... (thank you Final8 whoever you are...)

"I have just come back from the grand final and Brisbane Post match function. Brisbane has called his bluff, and straight from the horses mouth. Des says "I don't want to play for Carlton, so I will be staying on with Brisbane".

So I guess the race for Daniel Chick will now heat up."

Chick isn't a bad player but the toasters can have him.

If WC and the Hawks cant agree on a trade for Chick, you think your Violet Crumbles will go for him?

Would be handy for your mob.

I'd believe a direct after match quote from Headland in the newspaper than a rumour of an internet messageboard

Francis' payments will still be counted in Fremantle's salary cap if I'm not mistaken and with the added signings of Pavlich, Hasleby and potentially Longmuir Fremantle won't have room to swing a cat in their salary cap let alone go after Headland who will be looking for a large contract.

I'd say you will be mistaken. He never had a playing contract with Freo. He had an agreement to get a contract but he never had a playing contract. So he will receive compensation but not out of our salary cap.

BTW, potentially Longmuir?? Which rock you been under. He signed over a week ago.

Anyway, the toasters are tight***es when it comes to trading they would NEVER be able to come to an agreement with Brissy.

This from one of the biggest rumour mongers on BigFooty!;)

Why would a Freo fan lie about Headland staying in Brissy? All Freo fans want the guy!!!

Why would a "Freo fan" be at the Brisbane after match function in Melbourne and be online posting that message before the function had even finished?

Gees! Its not like Freo fans have gotten to go to a Fremantle premiership party have they?

IMO both comments most probably have some truth to them. Headland was p*ssed as on the footage on Sports Tonight. He most probably wants to go home but his massive possible wage, massive trade cost and Matthews' stubborness means that he is more than likely going no where. Both those comments (ie. a want to go home and a realisation that it going to very, very hard to pull off) make sense.

He was paid to play for Freo therefore it comes under the cap, the fact that he never ended up playing for them is irrelevant.

Sorry to tell you but Fremantle football gets less media coverage than the Welsh Netball team does throughout the rest of the country so it takes a while for people to find out how Fremantle are bumbling about.

He was NEVER paid to play for Freo. He was hired as a runner and was paid as a runner this year (which was not included in this years cap). An agreement was made that Freo would (not did) sign him to a two year contract (2003-2004). So HE HAD NO PLAYING CONTRACT. His part of the agreement was to stay in playing shape. He didn't, he got injuried, he got a settlement from the club... end of (a very sad) story.

I only thought players were included in the cap!!

What was the settlement for? compensation for not playing for the club.

He was given money as a player termination agreement which falls under salary cap payments.

Ah get stuffed, if he had've agreed to the contract Port offered him there wouldn't have been this situation.

A player termination agreement I assume means when a player has their PLAYING CONTRACT terminated by a club.

(ie. if Freo wanted to turf Toia and end his PLAYING CONTRACT we would have to do this)

HE WAS NEVER, EVER, EVER a contracted player for the Freo footy club. Which part of that don't you understand? Am - I - talking - t-o-o - f-a-s-t f-o-r y-o-o-o-u?

Cry all you want, the bottom line is that his financial agreement with Fremantle counts towards their salary cap for next year.

Whether he NEVER, EVER was a contracted player his compensation is considered a player payment.
