If I was as disposed as our buddy scham to wild allegorical statements I'd say Headland's problem is he is is in team of duds who don't know how to use him.
Last Sunday, with two minutes to go and a goal the difference, young Schammer is streaming down the field with the forward line wide open. One bounce, two bounces. And you look at the top of the screen you can see Dessie Headland has anticipated all of this, and taken off leaving two Adelaide defenders in his wake, and gets ten metres clear dead in front and 30m out. And our little flim-flam-Scham doesn't see him and even forgets to bounce the ball.
And remember Dessie was free in the Sainters match and if Medhurst had kicked it to him we might have won.
Why Connolly persists playing him deep in the forward line is beyond me esp. when he said himself that HBF was probably his best position. Get him behind the ball and let him run the lines, and deliver and he'll look like a million dollars.
