Calories in vs calories out mate, unfortunately it's that simple. Nothing that will help you significantly lose any fat is legal.

For a lot of blokes the last place we lose fat is our gut. Mine is actually the chest, and I trained with a few lucky bastards who stored all the junk in their trunk.
l dont eat a real lot and and no alcohol ....l just let myself go during covid and am now paying for it...

Doctor had me do a lot of targeted fat burning exercises to help loosen up the stomach fat. Its not that you're doing the wrong thing but the fat around that area gets almost 'stuck' and wont burn off as easily.
Being fit for most of my like and carrying 76kg, then going from 76kg to 101kg was a shock especially when l didnt see it coming...It just snuck up on me...Mind you being in my mid 65 doesn't help with getting rid of it easily...

Definitely takes a lot more work as you get older.

THIS x1000000000

right now is probably nearly the leanest I’ve ever been, I’m still the same weight compared to the start of the year. Because I’ve also been working I don’t really eat a lot, in which I am burning more calories than I consume.

I honestly don't mean to be disrespectful but everyone says this.

It's generally accepted that people drastically underestimate their caloric intake, even during experiments if they aren't being given set meals prepared and produced by those running the experiment. It's a real problem in the nutritional sciences field.

No but the left side of my hip was a lot higher than the rightView attachment 1295088

Maybe go check with a physio or podiatrist as well. My chiro mates were telling me they can fix my hip differential, then my physio measured my legs from joint to joint and found I had a leg length difference from the knee reco.

Off to the podiatrist who knocked me up a heel lift and I now have no hip or back pain.

Always best to go around to a few different specialists with this kind of thing before you commit to a massive rehab schedule that just happens to net one specialist a lot of money. That physio saved me thousands.

Thats ok....l've been doing gym work for over 16 years straight the first time and then 4 years prior to covid and while l dont know everything about eating correctly l think l know eneough to try and lose the weight but now that l have gotten older l have slowed down and l still to try to always eat reasonably healthy. Its just that since covid started l didnt have the desire to do anything and now that l back at the gym l have to start all over again..but l'm feeling it because of my current level of fitness is pretty low...l know it will come but while I'm normally patient with things this is not 1 of them..

Bloody spot on hey

The various diets are just good tools for getting to that basic principle of caloric deficit.

Keto may make some people more satiated meaning they eat less, intermittent fasting does the same for a lot of people. They are all just various approaches to appetite control but their zealots will try and sell people a silver bullet, which does a lot of damage to education about how to lose weight.

One of the best tips i heard for losing weight was to buy smaller plates. Its human nature to fill the plate so if you have smaller plates you have smaller servings.
also got told to do more exercises that use the big muscle groups. The body burns carbohydrates first so if you do high intensity exercise you burn more carbohydrates than fat, do lower intensity exercise for a longer period that use the bigger muscle groups, then that burns stored fat ie brisk walking, weight training
Diet also plays a bigger part in weight loss, than exercise, but exercise is great at keeping the weight off that you lose.

Im no expert, but that's my 5 cents worth from listening to some experts who I've trusted over the years

Were the numbers capped? I've done the half at Melbourne a couple of times and the crowd at the start was just ridiculous.
Yep capped but didn’t sell out. Definitely pushed as close as I could to the start line otherwise you get caught in the great glut of runners

How is weight training low intensity / longer duration? I would have thought walking and cycling would be two that most people can do for a long time. Running is obviously good but not everyone can run for that long.

If you want to burn fat, do whatever exercise you can do that burns the most calories, and eat fewer than that plus what you burn normally throughout the day.

I seem like a jerk harping on the point but there's a lot of noise kicked around by a lot of charlatans in the fitness industry.

For instance, 'Expert A' says "do these exercises to burn more carbohydrates first". Expert B says "do this for longer and you will burn stored fat as energy".

Yeah, your body will use carbohydrates first. But when you sit back down to rest and eat, your body will convert what you eat into either glucose, glycogen, or as fat cells, to use that energy for later. Carbs will convert into the former two first and then when glycogen is full there will be a process to store it as fat. Protein and fats will generally be stored as fat as well.

The only way to ensure that your body is tapping into fat cells for energy in a way that makes you lose fat over a period of time, is to just make sure you are consuming fewer calories than your body uses as energy over that period of time. Abide by this principle more often than not (and to a greater degree than your failures to abide by it) and you will lose weight. Don't abide by this principle and you will remain the same, or gain weight, regardless of which exercises you do.

There's a whole bunch of other performance based nutrition principles and all that jazz (e.g. timing meals, protein intakes, etc.), but for the average Joe it's as simple as the above.
