Sorry Fev, you didn't really kick the most number of goals this season because the Champion Data statistic was used in a "commuter rag"

Sounds like HH neds his ears checked out then by old Doc Reid. He cant hear the cries of "you're hot and can't hear the cries of "handball it to me."

Noticed alot of people bagging Hocking in the post game thoughts after Fridays game against the Weagles.

I thought he did a great job and think he will cement a spot all year in our side...

me too, his attack on the ball and determination are second to none, if he can start to use the ball a little better, he'll definitely make it.

He definitely was not clean enough on Friday night. First game of preseason and no key forwards would not have helped.

The other parts of his game were very good though. Top 3 for us in touches and some very good attack on the ball and blocking.

If he can be cleaner he will be more than handy for us.

I thought that Hocking had a solid first up game.

The problem is that you cant play Hocking, McVeigh, Welsh and Lonergan in the midfield.

Something must give.

yep, i think lonergan's second half was great, in and under, hard at it, standing up in packs, winning hard ball. lonergan and hocking are very similar, i think there is space for only one of them in the side though, time will tell who gets it.

last season i thought lonergan would overtake hocking, he hasnt done it, he looks like he should be able to! hopefully he does!

Lonergan's inside work can be pretty good. Watch the first quarter again, I think Lonergan's inside work sets up a Reimers goal.

The problem with Lonergan is his tank, as it's the only reason why we keep seeing in the forward pocket. He isn't a forward, he's an inside mid.

There is no doubt that Lonergan is under pressure due to his inability to pick up midfielder like numbers.

If one of your midfielders is only picking up 15 or so touches it means that the rest of the midfield has to pick up the slack. I keep thinking back to the first St.Kilda game last year where Jobe missed a simple pass on his 35th or so possession and got heavily ridiculed for it, I am sure a major reason for this is the extreme fatigue he faced due to how hard he had to work.

Also people often complain about our lack of skills too, one major factor is the lack of players who run often enough to the right places. In terms of disposal it does take 2 players: one to pass it and one to recieve it. If we have more hard working mids we should reduce our turnover numbers.

That is why it is so important for Lonergan to improve his numbers.

I thought Hocking was pretty average to be honest (and I like him) but I guess I had different expectations of him. Problem is he hasn't show he can be a consistent inside ball winner at AFL level and this is what we need him to be, even if he is good around the ground in general play. Lonergan is a much better clearance player than Hocking at AFL level, but his problem is he doesn't find it around the ground enough due to his lack of endurance (or at least that was the case last year, hopefully he has improved a bit this year, although the WCE match didn't really scream endurance).

I don't really find a midfield with Hocking, McVeigh, Welsh as help for Jobe to be all that impressive really. McVeigh and Welsh can win a clearance every so often, but they are hardly consistent when up against good opposition. While I like Hocking, he doesn't fix our deficiency in the square, just adding another runner with good endurance.

I hope Myers recovers from his hammy and can get a couple of NAB games in, I'd like to see him given an extended go in the middle as he reads the ball with class in the center. I know many don't rate Myers and maybe he won't be the guy we need, but we need someone to stand up and help Jobe on a consistent basis or we are in for a long season.

I meant that I would only play two out of Lonergan, Hocking, Welsh and Hocking.

Probably go with Welsh ( he can tag ) and McVeigh because he has the best disposal.
