Heath Younie will reunite with David Noble at Arden Street after accepting a role as North Melbourne assistant coach for the 2021 season and beyond.

A development manager at the Adelaide Crows since 2014, Younie focused on the management of players, coaches and football staff, and was also involved in the club’s finals campaigns in 2015-17.

The 41-year-old’s coaching career began at North Adelaide in the SANFL (2011-12) where he coached the U18’s.

He was development coach at the Crows for a season before becoming inaugural coach of their SANFL team (2014-16), leading the club to its first finals series in 2016.

Younie was rookie-listed by West Coast in 1997 where he played for two seasons. He then signed with the Kangaroos in the VFL before joining North Adelaide in 2001, where he went on to play 183 SANFL games, was appointed vice-captain and won two best-and-fairest medals.

Adelaide would like to thank long-time servant Heath Younie for his contribution after being advised he has accepted an assistant coaching role at North Melbourne.

Younie joined the Crows’ development program in 2012 and was the inaugural SANFL Crows Coach, leading the side to two finals appearances during his four seasons in charge.

In recent years, Younie has also been Head of Development and has an outstanding record of fast-tracking the careers of many young players.

Crows Head of Football Adam Kelly said Younie’s new role is testament to the work he has put in during his time at the Club.

Heath Younie
Raised in country Victoria, Younie was initially rookie-listed by West Coast in 1997, playing WAFL for two seasons before he was delisted. North Melbourne also showed interest in the talented junior, with Younie signing on as a ‘top up’ player for the Kangaroos’ VFL side back in his home state. But his career flourished when he moved to South Australia in 2001 to join North Adelaide. He played 183 SANFL games, was appointed vice-captain, and won two best and fairests in a 10-year stint with the Roosters.


After retiring as a player in 2010, Younie served as North Adelaide’s U18s coach for two seasons before joining Adelaide’s development program in late 2012. He was named the Club’s inaugural SANFL coach for the side’s entry into the competition in 2014 and guided the side to its first finals campaign in 2016. Younie relinquished the SANFL coaching role ahead of the 2017 season to focus on managing the development of players, coaches and football staff on a full-time basis.
