Heathcote DFL discussion 2025

Heard both games were won with the last kick of the day.
Mounts slotted one from the pocket and the siren went as the ball sailed through. Thriller. Was also interesting to see Bennett coaching North standing on top of the player bench. Good to see passion is still alive in the coaching box.

Is it time for Elmore to merge with someone? They would have surely spent close to the most this
They are their own worst enemy, the same people, with the same ideas getting the same results. No merger could work for the same reasons they are unsuccessful on their own, a bunch of powerbrokers with too much say and no idea.

They were a good club, plenty of Bendigo guys used to head out and play and they used to have some good locals. I dont see many locals in their seniors and theyre just paying overs for guys for not much results

Lucky he had his purple bib on so everyone knew he was coach…..

Have heard the exact opinion from many inside the club.

They should be a resource rich club; ideal location, many large scale industries that would allow them to financially compete with any club (within the cap and points means), plus some local talent.

Been told in no uncertain terms that the club is overtly administered by the same two to three families, who do not accept change or their outdated ideas being challenged.

Where's the sense in that?

They have plenty of locals in their team with Kay and Harney the top of the tree but recruit players with the wrong age profile who were decent footballers 6-8 years ago but are paid overs based on that form not current ability.

Holmbergs one of the families?

Thats definitely the case but also in the past they have tried to recruit fringe players from major leagues and good reserves players.

Think the league has moved past this as the standard has improved and other teams are recruiting genuine good players from major leagues.

Reckon elmore under bluey lifted the recruiting bar in the hdfl when fevaleki headed there, after the Bendigo bombers with Grant and kay

Haven’t been too many coups since those grandfinals. Brewster wasn’t bad a few years back. Other than that, year after year of poor recruits.

Same mistakes every year. Get them in for a year, take the cash and leave. If what they are spending was true wouldn’t you think you would throw the kitchen sink at someone like Sam Reid who will be able to attract the right people in?

Doubt Sam Reid is going to coach district footy in this point of his career. More likely to take over Echuca.

Great to see Brad McConnell signing on again for 2026. A terrific bloke who’s doing a good job.
Amen to that. Met Spick when we were 15 or so, played against and then with each other in a couple of rep things and together with Dave and Mark the McConnell boys were always the first to find at the end of the day for a beer, and then for me it was Bart also.

Only got to two HDFL games last year, one the final at Heathcote and Bradley, when he shoulda had his head in the game, spotted me and came for a yak which made my day.

I never realised how big a part of my football life watching dad, then participating somewhat was spent in the HDFL, loved it.
Actually run into Dennis Ryan Saturday of Mounts fame, he was more my elder cousins vintage but we had a good yak pre-game as I'd watched his boy a bit for another job in 2024 - then on several occasions my boy stood his during the senior game Saturday at Macedon which was pretty cool.

Apolgies to hijack and reminisce but how good is local footy :twohearts: 1753092277249.png

Think he’s done a terrific job considering who they have lost. Seen them a couple of times and they’ve been more than competitive in those game. Couple of winnable games on the way home, imagine if they finish above Elmore & LBU.
