The Rowan Warfe to Colbinabbin whisper is getting stronger. Heard from a fairly handy Bendigo/HDFL source that it is likely to progress, along with the return of many senior players from the 2002-04 era.

Don't think anyone's commented on this - does anyone know what his connection to Colbo is? I would have thought that he would have more mates playing in the BFL than what he does at Colbo? I didn't think Colbo would be down for long, but I must admit I thought it would have taken them at least a couple of years to save the funds to pay for the players that are rumoured to be going their way...

DG Wilson 'shall we say' Dip Dip, Doona where is Terence playing next year ?

DG Wilson = Darryl Wilson, 3 time premiership coach at Colbo and currently an assistant to Matty Knights at Bendigo Bombers. Bendigo is a fair way from the Dip in Seymour their Whip - sorry to disappoint.

Lockington ponders move
LUKE WEST
Saturday, 8 October 2005

LOCKINGTON-BAMAWM United is "sitting on the fence" regarding the possible reformation of the Northern and Echuca Football League.
The Heathcote District Football League club was among eight clubs that attended a meeting this week to discuss the possibility of the NEFL reforming.

But LBU's involvement in a reformed NEFL could hinge on the HDFL's under-17 competition.

"It (joining the new league) is an option, but we're not unhappy where we are," LBU president John Van Den Bosch said.

"But the problem is with some of the (HDFL) teams not having an under-17 team; it's like having a bye every second week for our juniors.

"And there's a push to make it an under-18 competition, which wouldn't suit us.
We might look at it (the new league) if the junior situation doesn't improve."Only seven clubs - Colbinabbin, Huntly, White Hills, North Bendigo, Broadford, Heathcote and LBU - fielded teams in the HDFL's under-17 competition this year.

In some rounds there were just two under-17 games played. The other clubs who attended this week's meeting were Mathoura, Moama, Barham-Koondrook, Cohuna, Leitchville-Gunbower, Picola United and Waaia.

Picola United and Waaia have already confirmed they would not be interested in joining the new league.

"We're sitting on the fence with it; we're certainly not pushing it," Van Den Bosch said.

If the league is reformed, it would not be next season, rather 2007 or 2008.

The NEFL disbanded at the end of 1996 having been formed in 1990 as a result of a merger between the Northern and Echuca football leagues.

Its seven clubs - Cohuna, Echuca United, Barham-Koondrook, Leitchville-Gunbower, LBU, Moama and Union - were all forced to join new leagues.

Cohuna and Union merged to form the Cohuna Kangas.

LBU moved into the All Seasons Bendigo Football League, playing in the finals in its first year in 1997, before joining the HDFL in 2001.

The club reached the grand final in 2002 where it was beaten by Colbinabbin 25 points.

LBU was beaten by White Hills by 40 points in the preliminary final this year.

Expect an announcement on the Broadford coaching gig in the next week or so. Had an informative hour long chat with the Vice President Friday on a range of topics - he did say he was expecting some interesting talks over the week, with some tough decisions to be made.

Applications closed yesterday and after sounding out several possible candidates the Roos were left with just two applications for the senior job. I believe they will re-open the application process because they're weren't happy with the quality. Word also has it they're seriously keen to obtain the services of a premiership midfielder - and are going to pull out all stops to make it happen.

``Premiership midfielder''. Pretty broad description. What level? I heard Brett Kirk isn't interested.

Thats all they'd give me - be tipping it would be one of the Broady boys from Yea.

Wouldn't be a former Broady premiership midfielder? Is Chris Dunne one of them? Would they want him back?

Dunne-o about him, but I did hear that his balranald pal could be in the mix to return to the roos after aparently missing out on selection during their finals campaign.

Would be good to see Billy get the gig for the Roos.

What about Bruni - did you say he was heading to Wallan Doona?

Angwin will probably be a roo next year unless he leaves the area

What will Baker and the 2 Fonua's do if Tonny shift into another comp?

Hey Doona, just on the Roos, why wouldn't Ross Andrews be doing the job again? Is he not interested? had enough of coaching? or was it in the clubs best interests to be looking elsewhere???

1. Angwin is still playing
2. Unsure about Dunne - yes Slade did get dropped prior to finals, and he'd still want big $$$ to come home - can you pay a last start 2's footballer?
3. Billy and myself are committed and keen to guide Yea as far as possible in '06 and back to backs is high on the agenda.
4. If I was Baker Id tell em to jam after letting him take all the heat after the '04 season - they used him as a scapegoat even though he was exceptional up forward for them. Dunno what Bakes, Ake and Tevita are up to.
5. Andrews is one of the two applicants, but word from the pres and VP is they will re-advertised - dunno what Rossco did wrong, many of the young guys have said they had their best season of footy under him- he should get the nod if they're fair dinkum but who'd know with the current committee.
6. Trying to get Spider Moloney and Robbie Inness on our ticket for a big return in '07

Very good answers there Doona. I wonder if Karl Norman might head to the roos with his old mate Angwin? I know Carlton told him not to hang around Lance and that the big fella was a bad influence on him, but I don't think Broady would have too much of a problem with it...

When you say Moloney and Inness are high on the 07 agenda, is that with Yea or Broady? It read as though you implied that you would be in Broady in 07 and taking these boys with you...

Anyone heard anymore about what Colbo's been up to? Any progressions with Warfe?

Roos' AGM tonight - always try to get along for look, and for once there appears no surprises which means the executive & committee should remain settled for another year.

I think next season will be my last as far as travelling goes, so yeah all things told I'd be keen to get involved closer to home. That doesn't mean as a coach, as I feel the only way the joint can improve is to consolidate with a fixed term coach - and that doesn't appear the favoured way with the current hierachy.
Give a guy a chance to build something up. In my opinion Ross should get another go, he gave a lot of kids a go and deserves to be there to watch their improvement in '06. Far too many coaching changes of late, makes it hard to settle the list down.
I did hear that Paul Tilley was in for the West Preston job, maybe Ake, Tevita and Bakes could end up there?
Never had the opportunity to meet Lawrence, but from all reports he was good at the club, got around to meet some of the older members/sponsors etc - something that has been lost in recent years.

Played under Daryl Wilson in 2000 for the Colbo ressies. I believe he took them to the 1999 flag and then took over from country legend 'Toot' Morgan in 2001 (I think) and won those flags.

I reckon he's a pretty good coach.

Wishful thinking Doona. I think whilst Joffa is playing at Seymour, Robbie will stick there too.

Robbie isn't a bloke who will go somewhere for money. Not on his agenda at all, you know that, whilst he still has the desire to play the highest level he can, i can't see him leaving. He will be 24-25 in his prime, he won't leave seymour just yet.

anyway, who knows, a week is a long time in footy (as eddie tells us), a year is yonks away.

But no harm in trying, he may leave.

Where has Roscoe gone? I enjoyed his posts from earlier this year but he seems to have disappeared.

unsure, i think a couple of cricket club boys were into him, some had my email passwords and set up alias' - think it all got a bit much. If you are here Ross under an alias come back because your were very accurate and honest and unlike the one's on here for a sh$t stir some of us are here to know footy news and views.

I agree. He was very insightful and honest.

Come back Roscoe, we love you! :thumbsu:

I have been interested follower of Broadford and although Ross is a nice enough bloke and I agree with some his principles, i dont think he is the best coach going around. He did a good job in giving the young boys a club a decent go at senior footy but in terms of respect as a coach from other players, he didnt really have it from day one. Also, the fact that the BFNC could only have 5 or 6 suspensions for the season (as part of the good behaviour bond) and Ross was one to actually get suspended, didnt do him any favours!

But then, i dont know who they are gunna get? Anyone half decent and with half a brain wouldnt want to coach under the current committee, they dont have much of idea about how to run a footy club.

Instead of coaching there Doona, sounds like you should put your hand up for pres, get Neilson to be Secretary and build a committee yourself...fair call on Ross getting suspended in a season they couldn't afford it though...
