HEFFERNAN TRADED TO MELBOURNE
Monday, October 28, 2002

Midfielder Chris Heffernan has been traded to Melbourne in exchange for selection 12 in the National Draft. The deal was completed early this afternoon and Heffernan now joins Caracella as Bombers of 2002 that will wear different colors in 2003. Heffernan played 97 games for Essendon - 23 which came in 2002. He kicked 38 goals in his time with the club. He debuted for the Bombers in 1997 after being the number two selection in the 1996 National Draft.

my thoughts exactly. Doesn't it just p*ss you off! So who will ruck for us next year I wonder???

Good player. Not happy to see him gone. Hasn't played to his potential the past couple of years but is very very good when on song.

Bit disappointed really as I quite liked Heff even though he had a pretty ordinary year.
Not that quick, but classy.
I reckon his best attribute is what I like to call "The Niggle". I have seen him **** so many people off and put them off their game, but he does it in such an innocuous way that it often doesn't get noticed.

It'll be interesting to see how he goes in the dees midfield....

BTW, he barracked for the dees as a kid if that helps!

I would've taken Heff way before Blumfield too actually....

I was always curious as to why Brisbane wanted Heff instead of Cara (initially), as I would've thought that talentwise it would be Skunk, Heff and then Blummers....

Well Hef may enjoy his new surroundings, as he was a Melbourne supporter as a kid as mentioned by Sydeny Bomber. He will slot nicely into our midfield and we can afford him.

He has plenty of talent and ability doesn't he Sydeny Bomber?

Yep - just had an ordinary year in 2002 though.
I forgot to mention, he's a GREAT tackler even though he's not a big guy. Often manages to get a quick jab into opponents during the tackle (which is very rarely noticed by the umps).


He played well in the 2000 GF. Maybe you should go watch your copy so that you can have a look for yourself?!

I would, but for some reason I might pass on the 2000 Grand Final...

We also got pick 17 from the Bombers as a part of this deal.
