"The mother of the missing toddler reportedly told police that a man pushed her to the ground in Heidelberg West before abducting her child and running away."

The body has apparently been found this morning in, or near the creek at Olympic Park in Heidelberg West.

At this stage police have stated they are searching for an unknown offender and that the mother is not a suspect.

The body was found by a family, including a child, who were searching for the girl after seeing a Facebook post requesting volunteer searches.

I'm not sure which of the two possibilities is worse; that it's an horrific random act or that it's a cover story. Either way, tragic for the child.

Yeah as bad as the case is full stop for such an act to happen, for the sanity of the community you almost "hope" (cant think of a better word) that it isn't completely random. And if it is random, which the cops/media seem to running with at the moment, what kind of scumbag does this? I guess that question applies if it's random or a known attacker.

You take your kid searching for what would most likely be a body at 3am ?

They were motivated to search because their own child had been abducted in the past. After that, you can imagine they would not want to let it out of their sight.

Wouldn't you scream out for help ? Surely at 10am on a saturday on a nice day someone would hear your cries for help and they might have a mobile phone so you can notify authorities.

At 3.40pm, with the mother away from the Perth St address, three white police vans pulled up outside the house.


Police confirmed they were from the forensics division.

I just find it odd that your childs been snatched in broad daylight, the mother goes home pushing a pram? Did she have a mobile phone? There would be people in the area I'd imagine, shops homes? Either way an innocent child is dead

"This is obviously extremely concerning for Victoria Police if this is a random abduction. We need to be careful, alert, given what's taken place at this present time, but we'll wait and see how the investigation unfolds."

It's believed the man ran through Olympic Park and crossed a footbridge over Darebin Creek towards Northland Shopping Centre.

Anyone who has seen the man, or who saw Ms Nikat and her child before the abduction, is asked to call Crime Stoppers.

If this man ran towards Northland Shopping Centre, there must be some CCTV footage. Let's see if the police release more information by tonight

Not gonna jump to conclusions just yet but geez just saw the family on the news and they were very matter of fact no shock or sadness on their face whatsoever.

And this other family goes looking until 3 in morning finding the baby. Apparently they did this due to having a similiar thing happen to them.....

if somebody snatches your child like that you scream your head off...
the autopsy will help a lot I assume...
