Hawthorn's best is only good against weakened opposition but you put em up against a side that believes in themselves and Hawthorn's game plan is totally shot as the self doubters rise to the top.

You contradict yourself bringing up 1996 and then saying we chose the easy path.
We've added ready made players to plug holes and address deficiencies during a premiership window. Why would we start from the bottom up when we're so close to a flag? You have to strike while the iron is hot, and so far our list management has been world class.
Grand Final spots and Premierships aren't handed out. They're won and earned.

Sydney went into that game rattled and down on confidence after we beat them the week before.
You could say the same about our last loss to Geelong.
Our last four wins have been against the 4 teams that finished below us on the ladder. We've lost one game since round 9 and it was by a flukey kick after the siren.
