Help - how to clean ears

You have to be extremely careful doing that. If you get it wrong -- ie use too much force or end up having the nozzle scrape your ear -- you could damage your ear drum or scrape the lining/tube slightly, causing a possible infection. You also should be careful with irrigation (whether by yourself or your doctor) if you've had symptoms of a virus or ear infection. Best to see a GP--bulk billed to medicare, anyway, quick and painless.

i get pretty bad ear pain/mild infection that feels likes its blocked all the time for the past 2 yrs. Thats very annoying, its got particularly more painful over the last yr for some reason. So if anyone knows of a magic solution, or something that works for them, do share. You'd have to be pretty careful when doing these backyard jobs though, it has disaster written all over it. Its not like you get a second chance too.

So you recognise that treating the ear is important, but you let an infection go for 2 years, and especially when it's been getting more painful???

Dear god man, just go to the doctor.

Ive had a blocked ear for a few days now, and it seems to be getting worse. Ive tried cotton buds, but only succeed in scraping out brown/yellow gunk.

Does anyone have any home remedies for my situation??? :(
Go to the doctor and get him to clean your ear out. It is very bad for you to do it yourself.

Northy that's just plain gross. Couldn't you have just gone to the doctor?

prankster, you were correct in advising the person to the doctor. I was told by the doctor to not stick anything larger than my elbow in my ear and that only he can place objects in my ear.

However, please keep your personal feelings and judgements of other peoples behaviour to yourself. It is unecessary and not nice for you to speak to people like that.

Thanks.

Stop bossing me around and telling me what I can and cannot do. That is harassment and I have reported your post.

Shut your mouth you fool.Stop bossing me around and telling me what I can and cannot do. That is harassment and I have reported your post.

I am using a keyboard to communicate to you, it is not an oral conversation. If you believe that I am harrassing you, I believe that the most effective method available to you is to place me on your ignore list. I do not believe that I am harrasing you, I am just trying to assist you in your communication skills. I can not shut my mouth unfortunately.

I do not mean to offend you, I've read a few of your posts now and you seem to be lacking comprehension skills. That's why I am offering my assistance towards you, because with some compassion on your behalf people may be able to overlook your short comings.

I am sorry, but I have to report your post also, because you have abused me by calling me a fool.

A fool is: One who is deficient in judgment, sense, or understanding.

Unfortunately between you and me, there is only one of us who fits this description. No offense intended, however it is your good self.

I had the sensation of blocked ears for a few days on end, went to the Dr and was told my ear drums were all swollen and I really had to use ear pugs when I saw live bands. My hearing is pretty damaged now and can only listen on the phone in my stronger ear else or the background noise appears to be louder.

So don't asume its a blockage, you might be going deaf. Poking about in there ain't going to help.

hmm in the last couple of years my right ear feels like its blocked up it stays like this for a few weeks then goes away then the it come back about a month later

Would loud music be a realistic cause of this?

Has anyone ever thought that the blockages could just be water? Try the old hop up and down on one leg with your head tilted trick. It may work for some of you.

One of my friends is deaf but has the cleanest ears going around.

His secret, which I will share, is to use any workshop drill. Chuck on any small bit. 4mm will do, 8mm is great for a big blockage.

Carefully slide the drill into your ear and activate it. Be careful not to leave it too far out; you need it as close into your ear as possible.

You should hear a distinct whining sound, followed by some rustling and smudging.

Keep the process going until you feel some movement in your ear, then apply the solution into your other ear.

Works a treat, candle waxing is about as useful as a hole in the head.

Hmmm is this the cause of said friends hearing loss?

P.S Agree with your comments regarding Candle method, Me I use urine therapy & yes I am a true piss head.

Had a similar situation when I was younger. Had to go to the doctors and get me ear flushed out. Turns out there was a beanbag ball stuck in there.

As far asjust being blocked and dirty goes, my missus is a hairdresser so I've had the ear candle thing done at her work before. Its basically a hollow straw they stick in your ear and light the top. The air pressure as it slowly burns down causes a vacuum effect to suck all the wax and that out of your ear. It actually feels pretty good and is really relaxing. Also it is actual crazy the amount of crap that has come out of your ear by the end of it.

I'm in 3rd year med, but thanks for the info. Send me a pamphlet.

:D

If you've seen Black Flag's movie, you can expect that pamphlet to be delivered to your doorstep via horseback telegram.

Either that or he'll say he'll send it off. But won't :(
