AFL Club
Carlton
My cousin, a fellow forum member and Carlton supporter and myself are currently debating about memberships. I have a standard Carlton Social Club membership and was asking him what type of membership he has, his reply was that he shares an AFL membership with his dad. His dad pays for the membership and they both use it.

My argument is that he doesn't actually have a membership, it is his dad's. To settle the bet I thought I'd post and make him support the club by buying his own membership :)

I totally agree! You are not a member of the club unless you pay for it yourself. You mate obviously needs to stop using his parents to help him through life.... Does he still live at home? Unless you fork out the dough, you are not the member, he is simply using his dad's membership. An analogy would be like borrowing your dad's car to take a girl out on a date. It is not your car, you are simply borrowing the privileges that are your fathers to give.

GET YOUR OWN MEMBERSHIP YOU SCUM

You might want to dip your lights a bit, mate.

If
1. it's a normal AFL membership it is not affiliated with Carlton in anyway so the answer is no.

Then No

If
2. If it is one of those club nominated a % goes to the blues but still less than a Carlton membership.

If
2.1 it's in his name

Then yes

If
2.2 it's in his dad

Then no

So there is a possible 3 scenarios, if it's 2.1 then yes. I believe it's probably 1 or 2.2 so no...

Who the hell are the two who voted yes?
Sorry Prebbles cousin, it's a no. Go and buy one if you're poor ask for one for Christmas

I wouldn't let the AFL find out if I were him.

MEMBERSHIP CARDS The AFL Membership card is issued for personal use only, is not transferable and under no circumstances may any other person use it. Members must sign their card immediately upon receipt. Lending a card is a breach of the rules and penalties apply. Members are required to carry their membership card, even if they have reserved a seat. Signature checks will be carried out regularly at grounds to detect any breach of the regulations. Members may be required to produce identifi cation. The AFL Membership card remains the property of the AFL. If a membership card is lost, the member is required to provide the AFL with a statutory declaration indicating the membership card has been lost and must forward the statutory declaration with a payment of $25 to replace the card. A $50 charge will apply during fi nals. Members who do not have their cards in their possession on match day will be required to pay an entrance fee at the same price as an AFL Members' guest pass. No correspondence will be entered into. Signed cards or photocopies of cards will be required when purchasing tickets or upgrades from Ticketmaster outlets.

Thanks guys,
working with him this morning and I think he is going to buy a membership this week. Might I add that he said that if I named and shamed him (he is a regular bigfooty poster) he would never work with me again!!

So will keep his name private as long as he buys a membership in the next month :D

I would suggest that this logic is flawed.

Last year I bought memberships for all my brothers, are you suggesting that they are not members because they didn't pay for it?!?!

Not at all. It sounds like you and your brothers have your own membership. My cousin 'shares' his with his dad.

That is complete bull. I am a member. It says my name on the card but my dad pays for it. But according to your theory its not my membership. I'm 17 and don't really have the $410 to pay for a membership next year so according to your theory i'm not a member but my dad is a member twice.
Its like saying your parents buy you new runners. But because you didn't pay for it its not yours even though it was bought for you.

No, he's saying if you bought one and shared it between you then you can't all claim to be members.

No, he's saying

and that's the logic I suggested was flawed.

I agree that borrowing a membership would not qualify as being a member.
