Help needed

Hi guys, i'm taking the Mrs to Sydney for the round 20 match ( and can't wait, should be a cracker ) and have never been to Telstra Stadium / ANZ Stadium before.

We'll probably be staying in the city somewhere and was wondering what's the best way of getting to the ground.

Also, what's the best seating area at the ground or doesn't it really matter where you sit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Cheers

mate, i love the stadium at homebush, i think it's a good venue to watch footy, especially if there's any kinda crowd, and i'd hope the clash with the cats will draw 50,000-60,000 at least
we always liked to sit at either end behind the posts, but we used to buy our tickets as a package for all homebush games, so i'm not sure what sort of seats will be available
as for getting there, i'm guessing you're gonna have to go by train, and my only experience of the cityrail service for the ground was the swans-freo prelim final in 06, and it was a heckin'g disaster getting out, and that was for a crowd of 61,000 (from memory)
i can't be any more positive, i'm afraid
i'd love to think cityrail had made efforts to ensure improved service, but i have no idea

The city is a fair way from ANZ stadium, so your best bet would be to catch a train from central out to Homebush.

Also, I think you get free public transport with your ticket to the game (they used to do this anyway). And leave for the game earlier rather than later - our trains can be dodgy @ times.

I might have to get the woman to do a bit of overtime and maybe hire a limo , otherwise i can see a National Lampoons weekend away on the cards

HH, having lived out of sydney but commuting there for about 8 years, and bieng here more than three now, it always amazed me at how people hate connex here
i know connex has so SO many faults, but up there....well, good luck is all i can say
but i agree with the other post, i think you do get free train travel with your game ticket

The public transport service up here is a joke, but they do cater reasonably well for matches out at Homebush in my experience. Express trains from Central every 10-15 minutes prior to the match. Gets very squashy coming home on the same trains, but still reasonably expedient.

I always prefer to sit behind the goals wherever I'm watching football, but anywhere barring the back of the big stands will have a reasonable view.

Here's hoping we're pushing for a top 4 spot by round 20, cos this would be an absolute blockbuster for us.

Staying in the city? Well, if you're coming down for the game and wanting to stay on for a bit of sightseeing afterwards, you might want to try the Ibis or the Novotel directly opposite ANZ Stadium.

You won't attract the unfathomable high price that comes attached to every hotel/suite in the city and won't be compromising comfort or direct and quick access to the footy and the city either.

For detailed knowledge of where to get from anywhere in Sydney, go to 131500 and book whichever hotel you have chosen early! There's a tendency for hotels to get booked out quickly at that time because of school holidays and such.

Some good sightseeing in Homebush anyway, and your wife will love the DFO in Rhodes. A girl's dream *sigh*.

How far is the Stadium from the city, and it sounds like the accommodation opposite the ground might be the way to go.

Its about 20-25 minutes in the train from the city if you're going from Central station - Change at Burwood and catch the special to Homebush - the walk from the station to the stadium takes up all your 2 minutes

If you're going to be sight seeing, don't stay near the ground. Getting to Homebush from the city when there is an event on is relatively easy.

anz stadium is 20km from city.
central station (the main railway station) runs trains on match day to Olympic Park station ( every 15mins ).it is normally an express sevice with 2 stops and takes approx 25 mins.....do not confuse olympic park station with HOMEBUSH station.......though HOMEBUSH is the suburb , homebush station is quite a fair walk from venue..
alternatively ....olympic park sprint ( shuttle train ) runs between olympic park and LIDCOMBE station..(every 15mins , all day , every day ). then catch a train from lidcombe to city.
your match day ticket will include free train fare to olympic park station from any station in cityrail network.

every time i go to Homesbush i find the trains better than Melbourne and free.
the worst thing about the ANZ ground is the beer,yuk tooheys new what mates don't drink.

Warm, watered down beer in plastic cups curses every venue - Tooheys New is an additional slap in the face. At least they have enough outlets and bar staff out there, the SCG was obviously designed for quakers.
