Can anyone give me any history on the DVFL both at open age and junior level. Also, can anyone tell me about the history of a league that is now not around. I think it was called the Preston district junior football association? Any help here would be appreciated.

I don't know anything about the Preston comp that you mention ... I've got some info about the DVFL from Wayde Petersen (he posts here and will probably reply to your post). I've put some of his stuff on the Footypedia (see the advert in my signature below), but not all of it, and Wayde would have more.

The DVFL have a website, but it doesn't say anything about history.

Also why not ask the bloke who knows absolutely ALL! Phil Gluyas, who has a discussion group on local footy, at http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/timelordsfootyclub. Fair dinkum, if that feller doesn't know somethin', then its somethin' not worth knowin'! He has ladders of most leagues in the entire country (!!!) at his disposal, he's been collecting them for ages, travelling around the nation to libraries etc.

I'm tellin' yer, he's the one to ask! Just register a yahoo id at Timelord's Footy Club (via the address listed above), and ask the question.

Hope this helps!

I may just ask Phill some questions. Also, just recently, the edfl website has got the premiership records. It goes through the clubs in the Seniors, reserves under 18s and juniors, and next to the clubs is the years that they won the flag. I don't know if you are aware of this, or care. Just though I would let you know.

Most of what I know about the DVFL is on Kev's Footypedia site, but I can tell you when the clubs joined the DVFL in a senior level.

Bundoora 1981-
Heidelburg 1923-
Lower Plenty 1995-
Montmorency 1922-
Eltham 1922-
Epping 1933 ?-
Greensborough 1922-
West Preston 1981-1997
Reservoir/Lakeside 1947-1997 (Merged with West Preston)
West Preston/Lakeside 1998-
North Heidelburg 1957-
Northcote Park 1981-
Reservoir 1981-
Macleod/Rosanna 1922- (Not sure when they merged)
Heidelburg West 1939-
Thomastown 2001-
Hurstbridge 1988-
Whittlesea 1946, 1992-
Fawkner Park 1997- (Merger between Moomba Park & Fawkner Amateures)
Lalor 1968-
Diamond Creek 1922-
Watsonia 1969-
Mernda 1946, 1987-
Panton Hill 1997-
South Morang 1954-

Former Teams include
Templestowe 1922-1990
Research 1986-1991
St Andrews/Coburg 1995-1997
Thornbury 1980's ?-1990
Kinglake 1996-2000
There are a few others, but I can't think of them form the top.

I know that the last year of the Preston District J.F.A was in 1995, when they merged with the Diamond Valley J.F.L, most of the teams went to the DVFL but others chose to go to other junior competitions and there was an earier merger between the Wattle Glen DJFL, and the DVJFL in 1987.

Thanks for all of that. Would you happen to know why the PDJFA merged? I used to watch one of the junior sides in the league who moved into the dvfl, after the merger. They were called the Newlands Coburg Cobras. Now known as the Coburg Cougars.

I think that it was for the reason of popolation demographics, there are less young people in the Preston/Coburg/Fawkner/Northcote area to sustain a junior league, and since that teams such as Reservoir Colts (Reservoir seniors junior set up), Alphington, West Preston, Lalor Stars and West Lalor, already moved to the DVFL junior competition from the PDJFA, it seemed the logical thing to to, now the DVFL juniors are rather strong and have a good set up in all the three divisions
