As many of you know, I do my fair share of community volunteer work and most of this involves sport.

Have applied for and have made a provisional volunteer for the Commonwealth Games, but have got a uniform issues which am hoping some of you could help me with.

Amongst other things in our uniform package, we only receive one polo shirt and I will be working long night shifts as a spectator services assistant at Vodafone Arena.

Most of my shifts will be between 4.30-5 until 11.30 pm, so will want to go home after finishing a shift wand wanting to relax for a short while then go to bed and not wash a shirt.

I was also a volunteer at the Deaflympics earlier this year and despite being a small multi sport even than thet Commonwealth Games we still receive two shirts.

Have contacted the Melbourne 2006 Volunteers Office and couldn't be given any sort of answer, which I thought was a tad unprofessional.

Have spoken to my Mum about this and she says this is something I have to endure as being a volunteer, but surely we can get something in return even if its one extra uniform item.

Anyone else volunteering and has an issue with only getting one shirt ?

What is the best way to approach this ?

Wash the shirt in the morning and wear it wet. It will dry on the train from Sunbury.

Mate, I won't be staying at Sunbury will be staying at Hampton where my Dad lives because it is closer to the city via public transport and more trains running.

Can you actually understand why I am frustrated about this issue ?

No. Wash the shirt, wear it wet. It will dry in 20-30 mins when it is on you.

It's not exactly all that hard, but would prefer to be in bed.

There are other volunteers who have expressed concern about the shirt issue as well.

catch a cold?? in march ffs!!!!!

ben its called "lazy" mate. put the friggin shirt in the wash it takes 2 seconds, then go to bed !!!!

you are making this a bigger issue than it is. if you are volunteering then you have farrrrr too much time on your hands, hence another 2 seconds aint gonna kill ya.

I am not being lazy, Pluga.

Surely even though we are volunteers, we should be getting some sort of lee way or a small thing extra.

Easy mate, come back home put it in the wash and you are done.

i agree you should have more than one shirt ben. and yes you are being lazy.
just throw the damn thing in the wash when you get home then go to bed.
just sacrifice 2 mins off big footy each night. some things just come at a price i'm sorry to say :p

It might actually be interesting to note that didn't have much time, if any to log onto Big Footy and actually read anything.

Will be getting home too late for that, Pluga_4.

My mum is a volunteer as well, and i think he job is to do with uniform handing it out and making sure it is alright. Just use some nice smelling stuff!

Ben - it's not a complaint, otherwise they won't listen, it's a suggestion.

Free advice, you know what I'm saying?

By the way, I think you might be being a bit lazy, and also, why are you volunteering every night? 4-11? That's not even that long. Tell some truckies and nurses that they are long hours and they'll throw their coffee in your face.
You will easily have enough time to wash your shirt, you don't need to do it at night, although it probably would be more convenient.

I mean, it's not like you are volunteering, sleeping, volunteering, and if you are, you've missed the whole point about volunteer work.

Wear the shirt for 5 days straight BEFORE the games start...go into the main office where you collect your passes

One whiff and they will give you 3 shirts

Cheers

Can't do that mate, we have all received an official warning that we are not to wear out volunteer uniform items before the games start.

Can't just rock up to get shirts, we all have an allocated collection time for our uniforms and accreditation passes we unfortunately can't change these.

Ben,

Get yourself a bottle of that Glen 20 stuff and a spray on mild starch. When you are getting ready, spray the shirt with a bit of each and hang the shirt on a coat hanger in the bathroom while you have a shower, make sure there is plenty of steam being generated by the shower.

This will help a bit and help keep the shirt in good nick without having to wash it every night.

Regards

S. Pete

Steal another polo shirt from a co-worker.
Then you'll have 2, to easy mate.
