About a fortnight ago a bet was made between two friends as to whether another friend would stop listening to a new style of music, while partaking in a specific activity, within a week. The third friend was aware of the bet, but unsure as to which side was which. To make the discussion easier, lets say person A said the friend would be listening to the new music after 7 days, person B said they would stop before 7 days.
First up, the bet was made on a Friday night even though both parties knew the friend in question would not receive the new style of music until Sunday evening. Both parties assumed that the seven days would start from the option that was better for them. Neither clarified this at the start. Would you assume the seven days started from when the bet was made, or from from when the friend received the music? The friend asks at this point to make specific mention that some alcohol may have been consumed by the point the bet was made.
Secondly, on the following Saturday (so either day 7 or 6, depending on where you started counting) the friend listened to the music in question. For the next week, the friend did not partake in the specific activity. Well after the bet should have been decided, the friend received a new CD and officially stated that he would no longer listen to the original music in question and questioned how the bet ended up. The argument about when the bet started was again brought up and also how the bet finished, regardless of the starting date. Because of the ambiguity of that middle week where the activity did not take place, an agreement can not be made. Which person would you guys side with?
