Help wanted - Match Previewer

i think i would be an ideal reviewer as i take my footy tipping very seriously, usually 2-3 comps per year and will give a balanced view on all the games...
I'll review any game you want me too.... also usually get to watch about 6 games a week these days so am up with all the form.

I will put my hand up Bluey.

I go to all the Port games during the season and home and always make it across the border for some away games so I think I am qualified enough when it comes to having a close look at the footy.

I wouldn't even mind looking after both Adelaide sides to give a clear Adelaide perspective on the games. Im not completely biased, I don't pick the Adelaide teams all the time and I think I compare favourably when it comes to tips with those people in Inside Football.

I would be delighted to be given the chance, I am in about 6 other footy tipping comps and I love the game.

I'll be in it in whatever capacity you like. I believe I can be reasonably fair or at least as fair as some of the tipsters in the weekend papers. I'm a bit concerned about all the people wanting to preview their own teams games though. Could be a few unbalanced opinions.

Bluey, if you go with the eight previewers, how about a match each per week but tips on all matches and a progress tally a la Inside Football etc. Or does Big Footy have a running tipping comp for all members/users??

It would be handy to know which game or games you are reviewing in advance so we could catch the respective teams matches from the previous week.

Whatever you decide, put me in the hat for sure.

One more thing Bluey, how about people to review the matches afterwards? A lot harder as they definitely would have to watch the match. You would also need neutral reviewers or we would only hear about the cheating and poor umpiring etc etc.

Allow me to be the eighteenth person to volunteer. Of course, anybody can post a preview on the forum, so it really doesn't bother me if my sage-like predictions are simply posted there.

I don't think i will volunteer as it is hard supporting a melbourne-based team when living in Perth. I almost know more about the eagles and dockers than the tige's

. I don't think you'd want a 13 yo girl doing it anyway!

Fantastic response - thanks everyone. There are a few people who want to do all matches, and a lot who want to do only one or two.

I will put all the names and preferences into the mix and come up with a draw for the entire season, previews and reviews.

Those who want to do all games will get at least one game (preview or review) a week, and will be listed as backups in case of unreliability. The rest will be drawn to fill up all other spaces.

The format for previewers will be a preview of the match, plus tips for all matches. The format for reviews will be a simple review of the match, plus final score.

You'll all get a little spiel about how anything submitted becomes the property of BigFooty.com, and I might have a little gift delivered to the house of anyone who gets published more than a couple of times.

Actually - no. Why should I own your work? The agreement will be taht BigFooty.com can publish your work, but you still retain ownership.

That whole ownership thing is so that a submitter of work cannot demand that it be removed from publication at a later date, thus causing headaches for everyone involved. The agreement will be that, while you still own the work, we retain the right to publish it until the cows come home.

And how about matching certain reviewers for certain games. For instance:

Magpie Joffa on McEssendon vs Carlton.
Bee on McEssendon vs Collingwood.
Dim24 on North Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs.
Any North fan on Sydney vs Briswhine.
BSA (ex-pat Adelaide) on Adelaide vs Port.
Eastaugh on Jack Elliot vs Eddie McGuire.
Sandie on West Coast vs Fremantle.

Does anyone here read the Melbourne Times? During the footy season, they have reports (in a section called "Religion") for the "inner city" clubs (North Melbourne, Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond, and Melbourne) and this thing called the TMT Cup. Anyway, their reports are full of bias, but utterly hilarious, especially with their pisstaking of the AFL and the interstate clubs (well, the non-Victorian clubs for those fans who live outside of the centre of the universe

).

This arvo I am going to e-mail everyone who has put their name forward and set you a task to write a preview of a few round 1 Ansett Cup matches.

This will give me an idea of the styles of each person, and be the basis for alloting the first few rounds of the season.

If you have a good digital photo of yourself send it in to bluey@bigfooty.com - I might post them up on a biography page to link to any of your previews or reviews that are published.

You'd better add a word limit, minimum and maximum, as well. Could you imagine Easty writing a review? I don't think his knowledge of the English language extends beyond two dozen words at the most. Also make sure that certain reviewers don't end up writing up a footballing version of War and Peace, and last, but not least, put a ban on pet topics like minor premierships and whether SANFL premierships should be included in official AFL records or not.
