Ok, so I want to play the Playstation 1 game, Xenogears, which never recieved a PAL release in Australia. What would be the best way of doing this?

I've considered buying the US version of the game off ebay, but then would I need a US playstation? Or is there some way around it? I've had bad experiences with mod-chips in the past, so I'd like to avoid that option.

Any help or anyone with any experience on the issue is appreciated...

Sorry, should have said there was no PAL release at all. Only Japan and North America.

Would I have any problems if I were to purchase a NTSC Playstation from America and play it here? Or does anyone know whether the PS3 (getting one soon) is region-free for Backwards Compatible games (such as PS1 games) as well?

This game had better be ____ing good...

you owuld have to get your PS3 from overseas as well, they don't sell backwards compatible PS3s in Oz. I doubt it would work with NTSC games if they did either?

It might though so you may have to do some research into that.

I heard they are releasing an 80gig PS3 which i would think is backwards compatible if the 60 was.

Actually I beleive PS1 games work on the PS3, just not PS2 games, they would be region free as well, as the console is region free.

Oh of course, sorry. Is it region free for PS1 games as well as PS3? I suppose it would be.
I can only guess, it wouldn't be too hard to find out, but if the PS3 games are region free, you would only assume it would be for PS1 and PS2.

If anyone has actually tried a japanese or american NTSC game in a ps3 let us know.
