Thread title is very deceiving, jmac. Thought you were going all soft on us, wanting to offer a helping hand. But no, it's a cynical thread. Then again, it's hard not to be cynical about Essendon and what has happened. A difficult day all round.

If I were the banned players I'd take every single illegal substance that would give me an edge in 2017 and beyond for the entire year I was banned, already been hung for the crime and certainly won't tested during that period

Performance enhancing drugs only work when they are in your system, therefore they couldn't have an edge in 2017 because they would need to be clean at that time.

Of course but they are a short cut to bulking up and building endurance, there are many long term benefits or athletes wouldn't take them in the off season in the first place

The thread is largely tongue in cheek, but the reality is that some Essendon players will consider leaving after this season. Our club should be looking for opportunities to draft players who fill a need.

They will bulk up when on the drugs but then off the drugs that muscle would disapear unless the athlete put in the adequate work.

I'm also pretty certain that the players will be tested during their suspension since they are still paid and contracted.

Yes but you already have the head start and retain some of the benefits, and of course you would be doing the work, it's not like you take the stuff so you can sit in front of a TV and eat Nutella out of the jar

I don't think the benefits are retained for that long but I may be wrong.

Anyway the players will be tested during their suspensions because they are still contracted.

The Essendon log on every page is starting to get annoying.

I don't think double jeopardy really applies here.....

Just heard this topic discussed on SEN and to be honest hadn't really turned my mind to it before.

They were completely right. Clubs will come hard for the quality Bomber players and would be derelict in their duties not to.

I think quite a few players will look to move on from Essendon.

Whilst Jobes statement yesterday protests their continued shared stance of innocence, surely now some players will be convinced that they were unwittingly duped into taking PED's and must be filthy about the club putting their careers and health in danger.

Having said all that out of the guys at Essendon there are very few players I would be keen on. Probably only:

Dyson Hepell - I actually think he will stay. Seems very Jonno Brown like in commitment to a club regardless of circumstances.

Michael Hurley - He is the one I would target. Would add so much to our list as a swing man to go with Brown/Reid. Great age who could still give 6-7 years service.

Michael Hibberd - Really rate Hibberd, although given our plethora of hb flankers not a great need. Even if he is a slight upgrade.

Travis Colyer - Was last year just a year out of the box? Would be keen if he didn't cost much.

Cale Hooker - Similar to Hurley although a little bit older, so not quite so attractive.
