Surely you jest?

No not really, Henderson was taken as a GENUINE half forward by none other than the great leigh mathews.

yes - jamieson has shown himself to be awesome. truly awesome.

However henderson was sparodic in the forward line, lest i say - crap.

He did however show glimpses of awesome - like jammo.

However - hendo has been in the backline for what - two weeks ? And in two weeks has shown himself to be freaking fantastic - so much so that pretty much every man and his dog can see he is natural - after two weeks.

jammo took years.

Not only has he shown an amazing flair for this role - he has also been released to move up the field (do you watch the game or listen to the radio) - and is killing them with his athletisism which quite frankly should never be a feature of a centre half forward - waite aside (hes ours).

hendo is what walker was - he is going to shit all over the idea of ange christou - hendo is going to be a special, special player.

He is my new WALKER

And you all know how that turned out.

gOOD TO HAVE A NEW PROJECT

I still think that when he's one on one and the ball is popped up over his head that he loses his opponent too easily.

Love the way he attacks the ball and uses his kick to set up the play. But still believe his long term future is at CHF.

We'll wait and see.

well not tonight.

No way you can say that.

He was outstanding, stood his ground, ran off his opponent - etc, etc, etc

Am putting hendo FIRMLY in the top 8 most valuable at carlton after what i saw tonight, im fap fap fap fapping over this guy.

If he can continue on what i saw tonight - this guy will be what makes us flag - THIS YEAR instead of next.

MMW.

will be good to have jammo and waite back though

I'm glad to see the guy developing. He has strengths in his game that suit him well as a backman. However lets not get carried away here. He still has flaws in his defensive game that need a lot of work. Petrie didn't exactly get it on a silver platter tonight either.

Henderson was good tonight. read the play well, was confident and has an excellent field kick. Struggled in the strength one on one duels though but petrie is a good seasoned player.

My point is - hendo is ..........................dont worry.

He SHOWED us tonight where he is going - what he is - he gave us the GLIMPSE.

Tonight showed Henderson, if played down back, has the goods to become a perennial contender for CHB in the All-Australian team.

Has the exact skill set and physical attributes required of a CHB in the modern game.

I think we forget what a confident Henderson can do as a forward too. He's a talent... simple as that. And like another talent that comes to mind (Hurley), i think he best serves the team as a forward.

If Jamison regains full form & fitness prior to finals. I'm gonna put my head out and say that his injury was somewhat of a positive.

A month or so playing on the number one forward means that we should have a competent CHB

Yarran Jamison Russel
Laidler Henderson Duigan

Is a very exciting defence IMO

From The Age:

Going back helps Blue move forward

The change for Henderson and Carlton came through the misfortune of another. Jamison's injury was the mother of Henderson's reinvention. He was thrust into defence and each week has been a revelation.
Confidence, as Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger observed - and if anyone should know, it is him - goes quickly and returns slowly.
Henderson's confidence returned in steps over those early games.

Think we can hit the nail on the head that Henderson is NOT a forward. Said it before and I'll say it again.

1. Not strong enough to be dangerous in a marking contest body on body against a decent defender.

2. Hands not good enough up forward. Seen this guy drop mark after mark, just like most times when he's up forward. Probably dropped 10 marks tonight, maybe more. The amount of times the ball goes straight through his hands is killing us, guy has no thumbs.

3. Only kicks goals when conditions really suite, one good game a month doesn't cut it.

4. This guy used to be a really good CHB... But then what do we do with Rowe, he has the same problems as Henderson does when played as a forward.

This guy used to be a really good CHF also.
Our forward line is a dysfunctional piece of shit.
I reckon wayne carey and jason dunstall would struggle in it.

No he didn't, he was a handy up the field CHF. Doesn't seem to have the running capacity to play up around the flanks/wings at the moment.

He misses a proper fit and firing Waite I'd say, plus there are whispers around here that he's carrying something. Who knows.

yeah he is definitely not fit. I agree he lack power through his hips/core for a bloke his size.

What was his pre season like?

I still think the bigger issue is the fact the only way we can kick a goal is either kicking a chaos ball or casbolt clunking one in the square. We dont seem to be able to work the ball around to find a lead up target.

Hendo may be better back ( I dont think he is) but we have 0 other options up forward. We have rowe, Jammo and white all doing a reasonable job down back + watt in the 2's. What do we have in reserve for tall forwards?

For memory it was limited. Still lacking endurance, usually as a forward he's suited to playing up the ground but hasn't got the athletic ability to do that at the moment. What's annoying is that he's still getting in the right places and still getting his hands on it but rarely are they sticking. He's never had great hands, good hands for a defender but as a forward you need to have really good hands and he does not, not consistently any way... But beggers can't be choosers, we just have no one at the moment. Far better defender than a forward.

Need to cut Waite or Casboults hands off and stick them on Henderson... or at least their thumbs.

Henderson needs to be super fit to play forward, he needs to be able to get up the ground and work his opponent over, hands aren't good enough to be a consistent footballer close to goal. All the decent forwards have really strong hands and usually a knock or arm slap will not be enough to force a drop. Henderson strikes me as a guy who doesn't have great thumbs as it goes through his hands a hell of a lot.

I recon switching he and Rowe around a bit might be the go. Rowe isn't the best forward but at the moment he and Henderson are about on par. Just got to get a player like Henderson who has a bit of class and nouse with the ball into the game. Would rather the ball in Henderson's hands down back than Rowe's. Both seem decent shots on goal.
