Saw just what I wanted to see from the kid yesterday :thumbsu:

He can hit a pack - he also can hold back and not hit it.

He can take a pack mark - he can also spill a mark.

He can kick a goal - he also can miss from the goal square

He can also kick a crucial set shot goal when the pressure is on - he can also miss in the same circumstances. (Liked the way he celebrated that set shot he got BTW, he really wanted it :thumbsu:)

He can lead up the ground and provide a great target as a leading CHF - he can also not lead enough and not provide enough of a target, or lead to the wrong spots.

He can kick - he can fluff it.

He has shown he has the makings of a great CHF, he has also shown that he is a 20 year old still learning the game at the top flight.

I have no doubt that it wont be too long before before he is doing all the positives listed and ironing out the negatives. Without doubt shown more than JK at the same age.

He'll probably get dropped again at times and will have bad and good games, but get behind him fellow Carlton supporters, he has a bright blue future :thumbsu:

Fev kicked 12 goals in a game when he was 18. Though it was only the millenium game and not during the season. Lol.
Sorry, I was referring to real games of footy and not those played in December.............BTW, how long did he dine out on that one?
He went on to kick 26 goals for the 2000 seaon, though he was dropped for a period there.
Bing!
Fev had about 1.5 goals a game for his first three years (99 he only played 2 games so won't count this), and only 1 tackle per game.

Hendo with 8 goals in 7 games, but he has spent time in defence. Mostof the Pies game and at times yesterday as well. Fev only did that once. :D

......and whose workrate "off the ball" and for his teamates would you rather?

But yes Hendo needs some time to bulk up and find his rythm. Just hope it's sooner rather than later. Hopefully the 3 he kicked against the Hawks can give him a bit more confidence, though he did have a forgetful first quarter.
Why hopefully sooner rather than later? In a hurry?

We hear the so called experts tell us that KPP's need a good 3-4 years before they start to produce. Hendo is on his third year........and is starting to produce.

Anyone expecting a Riewoldt, Brown, Pav or Fev from this kid should pull their heads in........he probably won't be a champion, but he will be a very good player. Look at what Kennedy is doing now for WCE. LH is tracking ahead of that.

Give him some games under his belt, and watch as he starts to grab more marks and kick more goals.

BTW, how would you rate his marking to Kreuzer's? It's really only been the last 4 weeks that Kreuzer has been plucking them, up until them the knock on him was he drops too many marks. Any parrallels? Remember LH usually has someone right on him whose job is to spoil the mark. MK often gets a freer run at the footy (around the grounds).

I was at the game today, and can't believe the lack of knowledge a large number of our supporters have about the game of football. Prior to half time Lachie Henderson was receiving the bronx cheers from the majority of Carlton people at the game. The kid is 20 years of age and was presenting to the right spots. Unfortunately for him he couldn't get them to stick initially, however as the game wore on he got better and was our only forward for the day. The same people that were jeering him in the first half were then praising his efforts in the 2nd half. I HATE FICKLE and DUMB supporters.

Great OP, and good to see the chorus of agreement.

He's a KPP, with only a handful of senior AFL games, most of them at CHB. He's only 20!!!

I love his attitude and the way he presents, and the way he fights back into the contest if initially out of it.

JK has some serious confidence issues early in his career. It's clearly one aspect of coaching that Ratts excels at when you look at what he has done for guys like Russell.

With time, bulk and confidence, Hendo will be a premiership forward for the Blues.

Thank you OP!
I was with my brother and his friend and I found myself defending Henderson the whole day, and cannot wait til he shows those two idiots amongst the rest how good he is!

I was very impressed with his second half as well

Can understand where the fickle supporters are coming from. He has had some ordinary moments during the season where his mistakes have cost us. When this happens many supporters don't look much deeper than the mistakes. However watching him play this year it seems evident that he presents well and has his head/heart in the right place. Given another year or two I think the sort of mark he took in the third quarter could become a regular thing. He just seems to be needing confidence as much as anything else.

He will be inconsistant for a while yet, but thats just due to his youth. I like how Ratts is handelling him. Putting him down back for for stints and down to the twos when he needs a rest/ confidence.

I like the cut of his jib and think he will be a great forward for us for a long time.

I just hope he becomes a good set shot...nothing worse that key forwards that miss easy shots...not saying he's a bad kick, I just really hope he becomes a great set shot.

Lol incase you missed my point.....I agree with you. In no way did I comment on his abilities in my post. I am a fan of Hendo. But you asked what Fev did when he was 20. I was just jokingly saying that he kicked 12 when he was 18, which is by no means an easy task even in a none H&A game, which I did point out too. Then I pointed to the fact that Fev only has 26 goals in his first year, which currently Hendo is on track to match.

And yes hope he develops sooner rather than later, because I would like to see people stop giving Hendo shit on our boards. I understand that he will need more time to develop, but I "hope" he develops faster than the norm for his sake and for the fans.

Fair enough. I mistook the cut of your jib. :D

There are Carlton supporters out there that seriously need their arse's removed.

Literally laughed out loud at that. :D

I had this muppet behind me who was bagging Hendo all day and droaning on about dreamteam and all this bs. Just canning Hendo consistently when our struggles had nothing to do with him. I made sure I was extra loud when Hendo got his tail up and got us back into the game.

Idiot.

I'm literally sick of arguing with dropkicks about Henderson. He will not just be okay, he will be an outright superstar.

He shows that he knows the game, and has all the fundamentals. We he puts on some size, and can string 4 quarters together, he will a key component of our team.

We are going to look very good in 3 years time with a mature backline, A-class midfield and a forward line with Henderson and Casboult running around taking big grabs. Lets not forget how young our small forwards are too. Imagine when they develop some more footy nouse. Exciting times!

Superstar......Lets not get ahead of oursleves now shall we  The kid has been ok at best so far and all we can hope is that he becomes a decent player down the track so lets just give him time.

I think hendo will be an awesome player. played less than 30 games and it seems alot of blues fans expect him to have the marking and long distance kicking ability of fev......

like gumbleton for the bummers hendo will be leading the goal kicking tally for the league one day.

Hendo's mark over Brown in the early stages of the 3rd quarter brought back memories of how Sticks used to pluck marks over the top of opponents.

Had 3 dawks in front of him and he just nailed that mark... brought goosebumps out.

Work him hard on the track and in the weight room next pre-season and put another 5-10kg on him while trying to maintain his mobility and speed and he will kill it next year.

Sticks didnt come to us as a 20 gamer... he came as a 4 year 136 game veteran from the SANFL and he knew his craft already. Give Henderson a couple of years and another 30-40 games as a CHF and he will never be knocked again.

I prefer someone who is doing all the team things. Someone who is willing to sacrifice their game on a day for the team.

Why hopefully sooner rather than later? In a hurry?

Kennedy had the misfortune to start his career at the blues under a coach who thought that Fev's shit didnt stink and that we didnt really need a quality CHF to complement Fev.

LH has an advantage over Kennedy in that he is playing for a coach who fosters confidence in players and gives them the game time they need to develop into stars.

Give him some games under his belt, and watch as he starts to grab more marks and kick more goals.

Kreuzer and Henderson are both in the same boat really. They are both young, relatively inexperienced footballers who are still learning their trades. Kreuzer has been burdening the main ruck role since he was 18 when most ruckmen spend their first couple of years playing in the VFL to learn their trade (Jacobs anyone?) before stepping up to the big time.

We have all the makings of a champion team instead of a team of champions and in a couple of years with Ratts at the helm, these guys will be holding up #17.

I can live with a couple more years of development for that day.

Too many people expect KPFs to do a Buddy and kick a hundred in their first couple years. That happens so irregularly. Most gun forwards take closer to 50-70 games before they start dominating. He will put on the 5kgs needed this summer, and with some confidence that he can bang with the big guys around the league, he will look a lot better.

I still think he is capable of 30-40 goals for the year, which will be a good return. Add that to 40 from Setanta, and we have Fev's offensive output, with a lot more contests around our forward 50. The Fev trade will go down in history as one of our best moves, especially considering we got an absolute cat in Lucas.

This is why I very rarely go to games. I seriously cannot stand listening to the ignorant shit spouted by the inevitable peanuts in my vicinity.

Also you live somewhere like North Dakota? :D

spot on, sick of ferals
Ferals?

Where?

The bronx cheers after Henderson took a mark and the cheers after he was substituted was a pathetic display by our supporters. Not to mention the crap they yelled out at Collins who had a bad game. Unfortunately, a fair percentage of football supporters are the lowest common denonimator and outright bogans. Amusing to see us jump on journalists and Carlton haters who critique our list, yet some of our supporters should know and behave better than that.

Schadenfreude.
