terrible game.
looked way out of his depth.
im hoping its due to lack of preseason and he will improve in the coming weeks.
as someone posted earlier the most worrying thing was his lack of effort.

Some carlton supporters are dillusional. Both henderson and hampson have been given plenty of chances.Im not only talking about the crap they served up yesterday.People have got selective memories, they have served up crap like that for most of last year.
What do you mean Henderson has been given a lot of chances? Do you realise that your statement doesn't make any sense?

Just imagine this place if Thornton had played yesterday. He'd be hanging from a flagpole at Visy by now regardless of his performance

Good example of how Ratten/certain players will get critizised regardless.

Had Thornton remained for Henderson, it would have apparently been this lack of change that cost us had the result remained.

And you're one of them.
He's had plenty of chances apparently, after just one season? OK.

Hendo struggled in the early going last year as he was getting the second best defender in only his third season (with Waite suspended every second week seemingly), and his first two were predominantly as a Centre Half Back, as he was third behind Brown and Bradshaw. So what exactly was the crap he served up frequently last year? If the comparison is going to be made, was it his three goals against Brisbane when his apparent "replacement" Fev kicked the same amount? Was it his 7 disposal, 1 goal and 1 assist last quarter against Adelaide when they were mounting a comeback in Round 4? Was it his three goals in Round 9 against Hawthorn which got us right back in the game, after he was being booed by the fans in the first half?

How about his last quarter against Freo at Etihad where he took 3 contested marks, kicked 2 goals and along with Eddie, almost snared us an undeserving win? Or where he kicked a goal before being moved back against the Bulldogs and denied Hall two shots at goal and saved a Griffen goal on the line before being injured? His 17 disposal and multiple assists game against Essendon while his direct opponent Hurley was negated after being best on ground against the Saints the week prior? What about the other 17 disposal, 3 goal 2 and 2 Brownlow vote game against Richmond, or his 3 goal game against Scarlett the next week?

Jeez, I agree, lazy and crap. He should be gone and Kreuzer should take his spot, even though Hampson is practically holding Kreuz's spot ATM and Hendo isn't a ruckman anyway .

Hendo undoubtedly had a shocker yesterday, I'll be the first to admit it, and he's my favourite player. But honestly, calling for his head after an interrupted pre-season and performances in the VFL where he was good but hadn't done enough to warrant selection is either heat of the moment stuff, or just plain stupidity.

Not trying to make excuses for Hendo but an observation from some people who were close to Hendo in the first quarter suggested he seemed to get the wind knocked out of him in one of the very early contests.

Just surmising that there may have been a 'physical' reason why he seemed so lethargic and not chasing etc.

yep. Heard all this before with Hampson.Give him time, give him games,we got a player here .Your kidding yourselves if you think guys like hampson or henderson are our future, all they are is a liability, the sooner we replace these guys, then we might have something that resembles a forward line.:mad::mad:.

:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu: Couldn't of said it any better.

These do gooders that tell us not to bag our players when we talk about Henderson or Hampson, are the same hypocrits that bag Thorton and Carrots even when they have good games. :D:)

So keep up the good work, and they might eventually see what we can see.

Remember when Hendo played his first game for the Blues we were bagging him then and still are???
nThe bloke took weeks before he settled in to the team, dropped marks constantly, missed goals he shouldn't have etc. This will more than likely happen again until he regains his confidence again with game time be it bad or good.We either remain patient and play him or drop him to the Ants,a catch 22 if you ask me.

So nothings changed. Did you forget his performance in last years final.
Dropped Marks, missing goals and from what I saw yesterday you can include no chasing and tackling aswell as not attempting to mark or spoiling.
In round 1 everyone played their first game for the year, and I saw plenty of chaseing and tackling

Hendo was poor yesterday, but the booing was one of the more disgraceful things I've seen & heard at a game of football.

Made me ashamed to be a Carlton supporter, and just highlighted that as much as we like to heap shit on opposition supporters for being pathetic - there are many Carlton 'supporters' that are no different.

Funnily enough - I'd bet that some of the idiots that we see here on the Carlton board (and have seen in this thread) are the very same that engaged in that pathetic act yesterday afternoon.

Sometimes you can just tell by their moronic posts.

Furthermore, the vast majority of people that booed yesterday were probably those that were quick to stick the boots into Hendo because he was part of the Fevola trade.

Makes me sick when I think that they are a Carlton supporter just as I am.

We all know he was poor yesterday, noone is going to say otherwise. But the actions towards him were excessive and simply disgraceful from a supporter base that should, but unfortunately, does not know any better.

Well said :thumbsu:

It was a disgrace that people cheered when he was subbed off. Who do you support. Hendo is coming from such a long way back this pre-season. Alot of you are jist bandwagonera who change your opinion on players after every week. Why don't you cast your minds back 6-7 months ago when Hendo was in great form. Perhaps it was the wrong decision to play Henderson yesterday, but he was never going to dominate, in his first game at the top level for a Long time. So if you want to bag him, don't consider heaping praise on him in a few weeks when he turns it around. Idiots.

Well put, it was the wrong decision to play him yesterday & he;s not to blame, gees I'm disappointed to hear they cheered when he came off, some of our supporters are pathetic, Henderson has so much upside, he showed heaps last year, I just believe he was called up too early.

But Carlton supporters booing him is disgraceful

I wasn't 1 of those supporters that cheered when he came off.

Reason being, I knew that both Henderson and Hampson would cost us the game, and that is exactly what happened.

OOP'S I FORGOT I WAS CHEERING AT HOME.:thumbsu:

Was going to make a thread about this but probably better putting it here.

The jeering/booing of Henderson yesterday was one the most disgraceful things I've seen at the footy. It is something that has never really happened like this before as with the new sub rule players are subbed off rather than rotated.

For anyone that jeered Hendo when he was coming off the ground should have a good hard look at themselves as it was a cowardly and disgraceful act. We are "supporters" of the Carlton Football Club and its players and to take pot shots at a 21 year old KP player in his first game of the year is beyond a joke.

To be honest I'm not surprised that Carlton supporters would sink that low as I would say a majority are some of the biggest whingers and self hating supporters in the league but it really is pathetic.

I know deep down all they want is the best for the Carlton footy club but really what does the jeering from 30K + so called supporters achieve for a young developing player in his second year at the club. Add to this being involved in one of the biggest trades in the clubs history. Yes Hendo did not have a great game but he was playing his first game of the year in a very fast paced and end-to-end game that no KP forward had any real influence.

If you look at Hendo's game you would see that he was getting to the right spots and a lot of the time the kick was to the advantage of the defender rather than him. He put his body on the line at ground level. Yes he didn't take any big pack marks but he was clearly underdone and trying to adapt to the massive pace increase from the VFL to the AFL.

Lachie showed some very impressive signs in the second half of last year and he will become a very important player for us but to jeer him like that is disgraceful. Think of the how shit he would be feeling coming off knowing he hasn't played to his best and would be feeling that he has let the team down and then for a majority of the crowd to kick him while he is down is just wrong (Yes players are taught how to deal with being scrutinised but why would you do that to a player that is giving his all for the Club you so call love).

Look at the game as well, how well did the other KP forwards play yesterday for both teams? Waite didn't have the best game, Ryder was pretty pathetic and Hurley was average as well.

Anyone that took part in that appalling act yesterday should really have a good hard look at themselves and question their support for the Carlton Football Club.

not surprising a fairweather supporter like yourself was at home rather than turning up to support our club in one its biggest games of the year

Nice to see you've proved me correct. :thumbsu:

May I ask what game you where watching
We can't hang it on Henderson and Hampson, yet you say Waite had a quiet game. Waite and Garlett was our only forwards. I suggest you watch the replay and see who kept us in the game it was WAITE.

This tells me you know jack about footy. Its every supporters perogative if they want to geer 1 of their players off, when they are to lazy to contribute, while the rest of the team are carrying their arse's

I agree with everything you say, but one area Lachie can really improve is how he leads when his confidence is down. Yesterday he was constantly behind the defender, and not using his body size enough...needs to show a bit more mongrel in the contest.

The second half of last year showed how good he can be, just seems the kid lacks confidence (much like Russell for his first few seasons) and those so called supporters with their bronx cheers certainly don't help.

You dont get personal darling. Stick to the subject like you keeping telling us. So who is the hypocrite. For a mods it is bad form.

We are all entitiled to our opinion on here, even if you don't share it. So do your job and moderate. We went to the same school they didnt teach us maners like that. Play the ball not the man. At least the mods on the other clubs let you have your say. I have better things to do than talk to you during the off season. Just remember I pay my membership and can come on when I feel like it not when you want me to.

Henderson was appalling yesterday. 3 disposals and 1 mark. That's a crap return even for an 18 year old who has had no pre-season.

The ball was bouncing off his hands constantly, he was leading to congestion and it looked like the players were trying their best NOT to kick it to him or Hampson.

He's 21, nearing 22. He needs to show something right about now or he'll be in trouble. I have faith though, he is much better than his last performance.

Regardless, the booing was a disgrace.
