Still really needs to learn how to take a grab, drops way to many marks that should be taken. Also really worried to see him shirk a contest on 2 occasions yesterday the main one when he took a sidestep when he saw Brogan coming and only stuck one hand out at the ball, caused the ball to go forward to Ebert and give Port a match winning goal going into 3 qtr time. The main thing that worries me about this area of his game is that its something that the coaching staff has identified already as he stated in an interview a while back and is still not going in hard enough at times. Hope he can really turn it around because a player with his pace and ability to do the freakish he could become anything.

i do remember him chasing very hard along the wing yesterday...he's very quick too...didn't catch them, but chased as the ball went through about 4 Port player's hands. then when the ball was turned over and ended up back in the Crows 50 for a boundary throw in, Hendo was back inside 50...and i just thought, wow, he doesn't even look tired and managed to get back into the forward 50 so quickly after a very long chase.

His work down the members wing after being involved in the contest in the BP to get on the end of it at HF was amazing. He just gathered bloke after bloke in his stride as he sped down the wing.

Agree with CM86 - needs to hold more marks (can't chest mark to save himself) and definitely squibbed a few yesterday. Both probably a result of being a bball player ;) He'll harden up on both those things.

Prototypical AFL footballer of the next 5 years.

Also saw this and cringed...something that a bit of experience should help with. But my god is the lad quick, saw him make a few pressure chases down the members wing and sheeeeeit, so quick!

Yeah it's hard to hold that against him. I saw it as him trying to paddle the ball around Brogan so he'd have clean possession. But I suppose it can also be attributed to him not playing a lot of footy and not being as devloped in the contested area as others.

Yep thats exactly what I was thinking. But again, only being young im sure he'll get it out of his system sooner or later.

This only looked stupid because it didn't come off, but it was actually the correct play.

There was a free player that merely required a small knock to get it to him, but unfortunately Hendo didn't get onto it and therefore looked like he squibbed.

I hate to say it too... but he squibbed. No doubt about it.

His work rate is what I love about him - he has an extraordinary ability to get up and down the park quickly - almost like he is still on the basketball court.

This makes him almost impossible to defend against.

He has a unique skill set so it's hard to know who to compare him to. Stupid I know, but his stats at this early stage stack up pretty well with one Lance Franklin at the same age.

He's improved a lot more over the past 3 games. Averaging 22D, 7M, 2.6T, and 1.6G per game. It's more the possessions which is good to see. He has picked up from the 12-13 per game mark to low 20's which is fantastic for a HFF'er. Once he knows how to attack the footy in a contested situation he'll be an awesome player.

Officially awesome :)

Hehe, he's improved a heap this year. Credit to Sando and the rest of the coaching team. I was disappointed when he was dropped earlier in the year as I thought he was playing some really handy football. He's so versatile and you can't leave someone with his combination of speed and height out of the team.

He does seem if he could be the next Scott Stevens. With a bit more experience he will be able to play as very useful defensive role and we already know he is a natural forward. Will be missed at the doggies :(

Quality thread bump SydCrow!

I've always liked Hendo and had to admit I was disappointed to see him out of the side and couldn't really understand the reasoning. As King says above he's got so many weapons (speed, long kick, versatility) and I felt he'd addressed the knock on his hardness earlier in the year.

Hopefully with this breakout game he'll be a permanent fixture. I reckon Hendo on one wing and Mackay/Martin on the other is a great combo.

Hendo had been out of the side because Shaw got a chance and ran with it. Fortunately Henderson went back and showed that he can play in more than one position, and he has now demonstrated as much at AFL level. He should spend the rest of his career as a utility player who slots in wherever we have the most need for his skill set.
