Good point - kicking four goals straight is his blessing - if Hendo kicks us 40 odd like him yes - can win GF. Not in defence for me

Hendo's mum is a single parent, it's family reasons re his brother that is his concern, obviously that can't be discussed in this forum as that really is none of our business.
I have no problem at all with players wanting trades for personal reasons. Gunston on the other hand ...
You forget Crouch, wasn't Crouch part of the Gunston trade too?Should have received a top 16 draft pick for a talent like Gunstons.

Getting slightly off topic here, but I've posted elsewhere about my concerns with trying to shoehorn Tex, Jenkins, Lynch and Johnston into the same forward line next year. Assuming Hendo goes, can Johnston play the third tall/loose half back role? I didn't catch all of yesterday's SANFL prelim, but he seemed to marshal things pretty well back there.
The more I think about it, the more similarities I see between Johnston and Andrew Mackie. He would obviously also be capable of swinging forward in an emergency.

Not sure if LJ covers the ground as well as Mackie
Few swingmen between the likes of Lynch (played HBF at his time in the VFL when he was with St.Kilda), Otten and LJ (who at first we said would be playing in the backline).Agreed, probably doesn't have the shut down game either, but he is tall, decent grab, an elite field kick and is the kin of player who would excel in that kind of role. It's the kind of role that needs a player with some arrogance and confidence in their own abilities. Similar to Hendo, could also be thrown forward at a pinch to create a mismatch.
I certainly think he'll struggle to get a game up forward if Tex, Jenkins and Lynch are fit.
Look I was as disappointed and pissed off as most when he left.
But you can't argue he didn't leave for personality reasons...

His kicking on goal is almost too good to waste by not having him in the forward line though.
efa and I hope you know the difference
HOW they did it - seperate discussion and jacky boy is a right old silly IMO on the HOW.
Hendo is good mates with Gunston, what's the bet Hawthorn have already been pissing in his ear. The Hawks are like Collingwood, they nearly always get what they want.

If we do get Melbournes second rounder for Hendo I can't see us trading that pick.
was juts saying the myself this morning
I think we may try and package McKernan/Lyons with maybe a 3rd/4th rounder for a 2nd rounder and use that if needed.
If we get a high 2nd rounder like that I think we will keep it as it would be overs for what is needed to get polec (assuming port arent offering their 1st and even then if he nominates us it wont matter so much). If we were chasing Lycett then obviously that pick would become a large factor in that.
If Polec nominates us and Port are offering their 2nd rounder I think we will try offer our 3rd and make that get the deal done using the leverage we will have (PSD, his preferred option) and at worst on trade a pick that is between their 2nd and our 3rd if we got one.

Considering Trigg has publicly stated Polec is worth a late first rounder, it would make it pretty hard not to.If we give Melbournes 2nd rounder *18th pick* to Brisbane for Polec we will definatly be paying overs. Like you said with packaging a player with a pick that would work![]()

Since when does a club have the upper hand in trading when an uncontracted player walks out on them?Sorry Kane we actually had the upper hand in this trade. If both Hawthorn and Gunston wanted each other than we had the option of the pre-season draft (and the threat of Melbourne) to make sure we actually came out in front.
So which corner am I in Carl?In the blue corner we've got
Posters who spin every single club decision as incorrect, and poor outcomes are examples of our incompetence
And in the red corner we've got
Posters who spin every single club decision as correct, and poor outcomes are just events and bad luck conspiring against us
And then we've got
Posters who can't understand the rules on the goal kicking game
