Leconte is playing in the legends doubles tonight. Should be good fun. :thumbsu:

I watched him earlier today on Margaret Court, guy is a just as big a clown on the court as he is off it, maybe even bigger. Some of his stuff was a bit hit and miss but he provided good entertainment for the crowd, at one point he pulled a novelty sized racquet out from somewhere, then played and won the point with it. His doubles partner looked to lose patience with him on several occasions though.

If you watched the World tennis challenge in Adelaide a couple of weeks ago you'd know how good he is. He and Mansour Bahrami are great. Just search them on youtube. Legends aren't meant to be serious unless John McEnroe is involved.

I'm going out on a limb and pretty much guaranteeing that he will not commentate another high profile match on Channel 7.

He was obviously told to shut up during the game, and will hopefully be pulled before tonight's match.

Mike Moore: I know comedy!!
Geoffry Salter: Yeah!!
Mike Moore: At that charity tennis match.. WHO was getting all the laughs???
Geoffry: You were!
Mike Moore: And why??
Geoffry: Cause you had the giant tennis racquet..
Mike: Yeah... NO!!!

:D

I noticed some of the legends matches had Pat Rafter in it... I might just have to check it out next year.....

I saw Bahrami play live before the Almagro v Falla match last Saturday, and I must say he is 100 times funnier than Leconte. This is due mainly to him knowing when to stop with the silliness, but mainly that he incorporates the humour more into his tennis strokes. Bahrami is also more of a skillful technical player... he was hilarious when I saw him (with doubles partner Wally Masur), even sat on the net to help out his partner as Wally was struggling to get his serve in. The crowd was in absolute stitches.

Don't know whether his commentary was good or not 'cos I couldn't understand a single word that came out of his mouth.

Funny how Anglo-phones deem broken English from Francophones as cute and endearing such is the depth of their infatuation with anything remotely french. lol

But had Henry been from some other ethnicity and with a different accent he would have been lampooned for being unintelligible and failing to learn to speak English properly and Ch 7 condemned for letting an incompetent biased fool commentate in front of a national audience. :p

Id love to see that on youtube.

I'm still working on converting my recordings from the AO coverage, i've made one large .mp3 of his first appearance (via 7's sounds of the game).

I have other clips from his doubles commentary with John Fitzgerald (actually have the full match + the sounds of the game commentary moments), and the Tsonga - Djokovic match (both the full match and the sounds of the game commentary moments from it).

I hate his first appearance the best, as it was raw emotion from a long and very exciting shot making 5 set match.

His doubles commentary appearance with Fitzy was good as he + Fitzy took the piss many times and plenty of laughs were had.

His commentary with J.C and Fitzy is best seen in the "sounds of the game" segment as they actually focused the camera in the bunker, rather than the on court footage at the time. You could see that they weren't impressed with Leconte's antics :p - which made it a lot funnier, in my opinion.
