Now, can we win a flag without a quality forward? The question is just as relvant for others so can any team win one without a QF.
Id say WC and Adelaide lack personel which are much better than ours, neither have an AA forward.Other teams that have a player of this standard may not even get the chance to win because they may not make the finals. Out of all the players I've seen this year the player Id like to pick would be Pavlich. Would we have a better shot with him,yes of course so why isnt Freo up there? To me its their lack of backline and midfield grunt.
Without the backline we are setting ourself up to fail like the ninetys all over again, but as plenty of sides have shown you can be a very good side if the backline is helped.
The midfield is the area that gives controls your destiny.It can asisst the backline by filling space and can relieve its stress by winning ball and pumping it forward. The midfield is also the foundation on which a forwards house is built. Without their work the best forward will be starved of oppitunity
So to me the Q is,Is our ball carring area good enough?I say probably not,if we see the way Ablett is turtled each week it shows that other teams dont rate most others.I also think our rucks have been poor and make it hard for our boys at the 50/50's
Id say if we improve our midfield we will make better use of our forwards.
Unfortuately I cant see us getting a Judd or a Deludio anytime soon so we must persist to make the most of the picks we have and hope for a long shot champ.
