Jimmy Bartel did NOT need to look at the front page of the paper and see his father. The Herald Sun showed no respect to the deserving Brownlow Medalist, especially days before the Grand Final.

As for Jimmy's dad, how dare he tries to steal the spot light and cash in on his son's career especially this time of year.

Jimmy needs to put all his energy into Saturday without having his personal life splattered all over the front page over something that's not anyone's business.

I seriously feel like driving up to Albury and belting the living crap out of Jimmy's dad.... I'm really pissed about this...Can you imagine what's going through Jimmy's mind?

Can't blame them for running it, they can't say 'no' to such a big story.
His Dad just made himself look like an idiot though, if you want to reconcile things with your son doing it 3 days before the biggest day in his life and doing it publicly like that is not the way to do it.

IMO Journalists are scumbags. I bought the paper on the way home from work this morning about 6am and still furious over this...I wonder how Jimmy's handling it.?

agree with all of the above

its all well and good that he wants to reconcile with his son, but privately and *after* the biggest match of his career so far would have been a better way to go.

i just love how after a brownlow medal and a potential premiership this guy has come out and wanted to patch up his family. Can't he pick up a phone and call? Why does he have to come out in the Herald Sun and make it a big public deal? Especially during this week, if he had to go public with this, why couldn't it wait until next week, when Jimmy is a Brownlow Medal medal premiership player with a Norm Smith before running off to the Sun to sell his story?

I blame the Herald Sun for this shit, why the hell is this such public news? Leave the kid alone on the week of the biggest game of his career, its bad enough we have to see Lance Whitnall and his brother fighting over the last pork chop every 3 months.. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, your meant to be a news paper, report some god damn news and leave the gossip/tabloid bullshit to Womens Day or Thats Life or some shit...

There was contact with Terry, something of a local sporting legend around Beechworth, until things broke down irretrievably about two years ago, the weekend before Jimmy's 21st birthday.

He explains candidly. "There was a bit of a family incident. He was a heavy drinker, who'd become very aggressive. My older sister was by herself at the time, and she had her first young baby, and I thought she didn't need another one coming into that environment.

"I actually passed him in the street, probably six months ago, but he didn't really notice me. We just walked straight past each other, and I knew it was him, but he didn't know it was me . . . I think he just didn't see me."
Sounds like an idiot.

I read the story and don't think it was right either, but then again the Herald Sun is known to partaking in acts of tabloid journalism.

I read both papers every day either online or in paper format, so I don't think I can join you there.

On newspapers, how has the Geelong Advertiser's coverage of Bartel winning the Brownlow and of the VFL Premiership been?

Normally get it some days when I am in at uni but haven't got it for a few weeks, just forget to pick it up during the day.

Online's cool. They won't get any money off you if you read it online. I think they get money off advertisers every time the website gets a 'hit', but the main thing is none of your hard-earned cash is going to them bastards.

I always new papers were dodgy about this sort of thing, but my family is currently involved in a very large court case at the moment and they have no problem sensationalising event that happen or painting the accused (I know I am biased because he is a family member but its still just not on.) as guilty.

Typical, sensationalistic crap that's so characteristic of that piece of shit rag.
