Why doesn't the Olympics have an athlete of the Olympics ceremony.
I reckon it would be good. For every event they would give 10 PTS to the Gold Medalist, 8 to the silver medalist, 6 to the Bronze Medalist, 5 to 4th place, 4 to 5th place, 3 to 6th place, 2 to 7th place and 1 PT to 8th place.
For instance, in tonights 400m Freestyle the points would have been handed out like so:
10- Ian Thorpe
8- Massimilano Rosolino
6- Klete Keller
5- Emiliano Brembilla
4- Dragos Coman
3- Chad Carvin
2- Grant Hackett
1- Ryk Neethling
At the end of the games each athletes points are tallied and at the closing ceremony the Athlete of the games is announced. For teams sports all members of the team would get whatever points were handed out to their team. So for instance if Australia came 4th, then all 20 members of Australia squad would get 5 points. I think it would be unfair to divide the points up, because soccer players, basketballers, handballers, etc,. only get to compete in 1 event, while Swimmers, runners compete in several.
Generally, the winner of it would be an athlete or a swimmer.
what do you guys reckon about that idea??

well no, because i dont really think that is in the spirit of the olympics...its a team thing, a country thing not an individual thing. You compete for your country not for yourself.

Just checking if the smiles things work. I;ve never tried it before.

How about footy for the Olympics by 2052. by then there'll have been 12 Austrlain Football World Cups. I think a 9 or 12 a-side version could catch on really widely - especially if the tackling/contact rules were somewhat modified (see my post re footy's future).

Or you never know where International Rules could lead as a round soccer like ball is more familiar globally. The Danish schoolkids footy side who toured Oz this year said they switched from soccer "because its so much more fun gettting your hands on the ball".
