Maybe they should hold of on the auction for a week and wear the jumpers against Essendon on Sunday to avoid a jumper clash!

Maybe this is not the right thread to bring this up, but it seems that the obsession on this board with Joel Bowden's performance, or non-performance as it were, has gotten to be rather disturbing.

To lump the bulk of your animosity on one player is quite pathetic, really. Whilst Joel has been disappointing, the massive quantity of negative remarks against him on this board recently have far outweighed Joel's relative lack of onfield performance.

And if you think that the Tigers are where they are simply because Joel Bowden has the honour of featuring just below Luke Darcy in the most number of clangers in the league this season, then I fear that you're extremely misguided.

There is far more damaging and cutting stats attached to our team than just Joel Bowden's misdemeanors. Figuring a way of converting ruck hit-outs into clearances at stoppages is way more critical and urgent to the overall perfromance of Richmond ... and the number of effective tackles laid inside our forward 50 is also far more pivotal. The number of possessions v. number of goals ratio is also way too high, as is the lack of uncontested marks insie our forward 50. Please don't lump all of these deficiencies on Joel Bowden.

I'll concede that Joel certainly has been disappointing, though whether that is simply because I expected more of him than I should have, I'm not too sure. Maybe he needs to be best on ground at least once a season to fully satisfy my expectations ... and he definitely hasn't done a B.O.G. for a while.

The thing is, he is consistently in our best 11 out of 22 each week. Whether that is good enough, I'm not too sure. Probably not. But he's certainly not the main reason that we're shot this season, nor is it justification for him to receive such sustained individual criticism.

Delve deeper.
 
Of course I was not just reacting to your comment, mellow. It was more that it was symbolic of the many, many posts on here, the main board and PuntRoadEnd, not to mention everyone from the typical bloke in the outer to my old man who wants to lob it all on Joel Bowden's shoulders.

This has been going on all year, and is not just one or two isolated remarks about Bowden.

And I agree he should be traded, but it's certainly no more Bowden's fault that we're languishing than it is Richardson's, Stafford's, Johnson's, Holland's, Kellway's etc...

Only Coughlan leaves this season safe in the knowledge of maximum output ....

Agreed.

I think andy could also feel okay about his season but most of the senior list should be whipped over the summer.
 
Come off it Ghost. You know, i really enjoy reading your posts, except when you get this holier than thou attitude.

I think people are quite entitled to expect more out of a player who is a leader of this club. He is not a kid, and he's definitely not a dud, but he has not played well for a couple of seasons, and more is a crime is that he has the god-given talent to play this game.

You see someone like Bowden who looks lazy, does not go in for a ball, disposes of the ball in a sloppy fashion, turning it over to opposition players, why shouldn't he escape our criticism. He gets criticised by me because i see him as the greatest waste of talent at this club. He doesn't get criticised at the club - gets a game every week regardless of how he plays. And no wonder we are where we are. Doesn't matter who you are, if you're out of form, you should go back to the 2s until you find some. You've got to earn a spot in a side, not automatic selection.

So i guess we are "disturbed", but we all pay our money to go and see this rubbish and are entitled to more.

There's not much I'd argue with there, CC.

My beef is with those who constantly target one player for the ineptness of many.

It's like those who bag Eddie McGuire for everything that goes wrong at Channel 9. Bag him for being an egotistical idiot, by all means, but there's others who are equally to blame.
 
Bowden wasn't always "soft". For memory, he went in pretty hard prior to a collarbone injury (maybe he's had 2?? - not sure).

I've never had a collarbone injury, but i've had a rotator cuff injury and would be one of the most painful things ever to experience. If that is always in the back of his mind, might explain his hesitancy to go into packs. Still, if that's the case, he's got to somehow overcome.

Apologies Ghost for the heavyhandedness, but Bowden is a very frustrating player to most of us.
