Carey has not personality at all.

Oh yeah we have heard it all before. A friend of a friend of a friend was in a pub and someone said do you know who I am and they looked and it was Wayne Carey, I have heard the same story about James Hird Nathan Buckley and a dozen or so others. Get over it. And as for the grab, well get over that too.
Carey has a fantastic personality, you have obviously never met him. And as Greg Norman once said if you are good at your job then to those who are watching you, you can appear to be a smartarse, but when it all boils down it is just envy.

Carey seemed a real great guy the few times I have met him and for a guy of his status to stop like he does for the fans well i tell u Buckley could certainly learn off him! As for off field antics well i wouldnt target Carey Magpiegal19 because u have seen how some of our boyz act when we are out with them quite a number of times this so called Carey incident could have happened to us with other players.

Magpie Gal 19,

You asked if North were 'confused' the last time they played Collingwood.

No - but Collingwood, McGuire and Malthouse were confused about who should wear black shorts. Seems they believe that only Collingwood has the right to wear black shorts!!

So Collingwood beat North on the day. Big deal. Playing in finals is what matters.

I wonder if you (or any other Collingwood supporters) heard Neil Balme on radio talking about FIGJAM and his captaincy. Something along the lines "he's still young and learning, (re captaincy) and he should be better for it this year".

He is not young, he is 28 for goodness sake.

"There were some issues that had been adressed, regarding Nathan and the players."

Why did Chris Tarrant leave? Buckley wanted the captaincy, replaced Brown as captain and the next year he needed training in what is needed to be a leader.
Yes his nick-name is apt, FIGJAM.

Maybe Buckley is not the great player that he is made out. A great player is usually also a great natural leader.
Maybe Collingwood is floundering along the bottom because of Buckley.

Isnt it amazing you get a post like this and nobody wants to comment. where are you Magpiegirl19. Or is it that you just dont want to comment on this subject anymore. At training one night a girl dressed in a Bombers jumper went over and asked the King if he would mind if she had her photo taken with him, he was fantastic with her, she was so excited and told others around us that she would never get that reaction from Hird she wouldnt even be game enough to just walk up to him an ask him for it. By the way Carey was doing his stretching at the fence when she asked him .

The 125 point thrashing Joel we can take that , at least we get a few extra games out of our boys Joel, sometimes we even get to the finals and sometimes we even win the big one. Instead of pulling out a few quotes Joel and saying things like hehehe ummmm hahaha and calling people idiots, why dont you at least say something constructive

All right Daphne. What "constructive" work has North done either on field or off field of late?

Collingwood will suprise, and no this isn't a Collingwood supporter getting all hopeful about the year ahead. I'm just saying Collingwood will be a suprise to some teams and they won't be ready for 'em.

While they may not make the eight this year, keep watching because they are going to hot in the years to come. MARK MY WORDS!!!

I'd also like to know why people are so scared of Collingwood rising up the ladder. Collingwood finished 15th, we beat you, and then you were comprehesively beaten by Essendon.

What is North doing by picking up hacks from other teams? They are doing what Collingwood did for years. You are heading down the same path, as what we did after 1990.

All you collingwood supporters talk about is the future, the future, see how hot we'll be in the future, we're building a power for the future. Cut the crap. You guys have been developing a team for ten years now. You don't know what might happen in the future. Fraser might do his knee, Buckley might wise up and leave for a quality team.
You don't see Carlton or Essendon dropping to the depths before rebuiding into a power again. And North intend to do likewise.
So wait till those young players do perform and are not 'flash in the pans' and that the magpies do suceed before bragging about how good you are.

CIK, resort to picking on spelling. Mate, I have received distinctions through my years at school for English and it just happens that I typed too fast to realise what I was typing. Secondly I was upto 4.30 am Friday night out with my mates so that didn't help. What I would like to see is the answer to my questions! What exactly is Norff doing to rectify their downfall? Absoloutely nothing, they are recruiting hacks from other teams. Sav has never kicked 100 goals and most likely never will! When was the last time he got close? 1995! Six years ago.

Croode, I agree on most points. However teams like Essendon and Carlton do drop to the depths we have. Essendon and Carlton as I believe in 1997 both missed the 8 (I think finished below Collingwood).

Before now Collingwood hadn't recruited youth for a number of years, this is what they are now actively doing and anyone who knows a thing about football and who maybe took the time to watch training (this year VS previous years) can see the obvious improvement already.

WE HAVE NOT been developing a team for 10 years, we had been recruiting hacks and "past it" players for 10 years and NEVER started to develop a team that would develop together and for the "FUTURE", which is now happening.

I'm not expecting us to make the finals this year or next year for the matter but I do expect we will have what it takes in the not to distant future. Again this is not just a hopeful supporter, this is happening guys believe me! Have a look for yourselves.

well back to SAV ROCCA.....well i dont hate the guy cause his not with the pies anymore but i hope he does really well and picks himself up again. Now that he is obviously physically fit hopefully he gains more confidence and becomes the Sav Rocca he was when he first came to collingwood!!!

Miss Magpie....about that round we beat north...maybe the orange got to their heads a bit too much!!!!so dont let it bother you when they snap back like jaws when u remind them about that game!!!

Joel,

Let me explain to you a few things. For starters North has not had a downfall, you will recall that North has finished in the top 4 for the last 7 years, 2 premierships, etc, blah, blah. We all know Collingwoods record.
You believe that North will fall this year.

This will not be the case for the following reasons.
1) Our top dozen players are as good as any ie - Carey, Stevens, Archer, McKernan, King, Pickett, Harvey, Colbert, Blakey,Martyn, Grant.

2) Your question as to what they are doing about it. We have turned over a third of our list from last year and only half the players from 99 are still at the club. Athough we lost Bell, we did gain Jess Sinclair(was pick 18 in 96 draft) and 3 draft picks in the top 8. These were used to draft Harris (captain metro side last year) Dylan Smith (captain vic country last year)and Daniel Motlop who from reports is something special. These are all hard running players who will all play this year and inject what North lacked last year, youth and enthusiasm.

3) You say that North are recycling hacks. All clubs recycle hacks, but the difference with North is that have a higher success rate than all others ie Blakey, Abraham, Bell, Pike, McCartney etc.
Rocca, Sinclair & McClaren may well be a Calthorpe or a Durkay but history suggests at least one of them will be a longterm player.

4) North has a number of younger players, although they do not get the publicity as similiar players from other clubs but will be consistent performers this year, players such as Rawlings, Watt, Lindsay Smith, Lange, Makepiece.

5)North was crucifed with injuries last year, Archer, Carey, McKernan, Colbert, Stevens, Martyn all missed games and played under duress. Reports are that all have regained full fitness and Stevens, Colbert, Mckernan, Archer have been outstanding in intraclub games.

6) The coaching structure has been revamped with two new assistant coaches and the players are all refreshed. With a shortened break last year and the fact that we have played an extra 4 or 5 games every year due to us playing consistent finals footy,(something the Collingwood hacks do not know)the team was physically gone at the end of last year.

7) Expect Pagan to revamp the game plan. Our centreline re midfield was severely exposed last year but expect Pickett to play in the midfield to give toughness and added pace from Sinclair, McLaren and the 3 top eight draft picks above.

8) Carey will play further forward with McKernan, Colbert, Smith, Rocca and Lange giving the focal points across half forward with players such as the Motlop brothers, Harvey, Abraham and Grant doing the crumbing.

9) Our backline may be a worry but Martyn, Archer, McCartney provide hardness with King run out of defence.

10) With our list we will finish in the top four at the end of the H&A and with a bit of luck (ie no injuries) North will be right with it come the last day in September.

Thanks for answering my questions intelligently, its appreciated. Now answer this, did North have a full side against Essendon when they played them in the finals, or when they played Collingwood in Round 21?

Daphne please, you are arguing with a pies fan, why drag the Bombers into this fight.
Also you are wrong about Hird, after training has finished, Hird is out there for ages signing autographs & having his pic taken with people. You have just done to Hirdy what you are accusing people of doing to Carey.

Yes we probably did have a full side Joel, but probably a bit leg weary by then, after all we had played and won more games for the season by then. In fact it has been noted that since 1994 the Kangas have played one extra season compared to other teams, thats 22 games Joel, lets just wait and see how we go this year, and as for a downfall,Ha
you wish.

Daphne answer please.
You inferred that Hird wasn't as friendly & accomodating as Carey, based on 1 fan who said she wouldn't get the same reaction from Hird, even though she admitted she had never approached him.

Daphne stop making excuses, I'm sure that they have the appropriate time to rest during the off season/pre season. Collingwood has played 21 games by that stage last season too. But I suppose because you are North you were alot more tired.

Thanks MagpieGal19

May I also note we played Essendon in the last round and only lost by 21 points.

Joel,

I cannot recall whether North had a full side in for Round 21 or against Essendon. I think it would have made little difference against Essendon last year, they were obviously a mile in front of everyone and unless specifically mentioned I would have forgotten we had played Collingwood in Round 21.

It's a matter of expectations, you remember round 21 because you know that North is a superior outfit to Collingwood in onfield performance over the decade, recruiting and administration.

As for the loss to Essendon and as a longtime North member I will not defend it. It was the most disgraceful, inept performance I have seen from North ever.

However it is my opinion that the club has addressed our major weakness from last year, pace and hardness through the midfield and the new recruits we have; we are a better side than last year.

Whether North have improved enough to win a premiership who knows but one thing is certain, North will be there come September and unless the Gods smile on the Pies you will not.

All this stuff is just talk and until round 1 is completed we won't know who is talking the most bull.
