...is there any team that you enjoy watching (apart from the Lions of course)?

But you are right in so many ways. Teams only care about the four points and will do anything to get them. Even if the football is 'ugly'.

I believe the umpires have a HUGE influence on this. In Rugby (Union) the referee has 'complete' control in the style of the game. They can make it a stop/start affair awarding 'technically' correct but highly pedantic penalties, or they can allow the game to 'flow' and award only those obvious indiscretions.

In our game, the umpires are failing to find a balance. Many umpires in Aussie Rules, like some Union Refs, are guilty of grandstanding. This can potentially ruins both games. I do find that AFL umpires have the greatest say when it comes to boring footy. Nobody wants to watch a game when every 2nd decision leads a "what was that for?" kind of response.

To answer you're question, I reckon the Pies are great to watch; Melbourne, in-form, are good to watch; Port, when they get motoring, are an entertaining outfit; and Essendon are just awesome when they decide to be. North are OK too.

Then there's Hawthorn, Bulldogs and my mob, who can all play an exhilarating brand of football, at times, but when not in attacking frames of mind, are just awful to watch.

And then we move on to Sydney, Carlton and Richmond, whose coaches must surely have shares in Nescafe or Maxwell House, such are their sleep-inducing styles of play.

On to part B, and thanks for the Dorothy Dixer, Adrian! ;)

It is a fallacy that 'putting the whistle away' makes for a more free-flowing game. Check points 3, 4 and 5 in the
Five ways to improve the game without changing the rules thread to see what I'm on about. (I cant be bothered typing it all out again. ;))

I know it makes me sound like a past-dwelling old fogey when I harp about this (probably because I am a past-dwelling old fogey), but I just want to see the game played, more often, at its majestic best and not as some sort of poor-man's rugby.
