Analysis Hickey vs Longer

I wont bother insulting you about not watching the game. I can assure you I watch every game very closely. I have an opinion about what is a good ruckman. It differs from yours. My opinion is the same for my local club as well. I can see what Longer does. I see it very well. I want more in the rucks than that. You obviously don't and that's fine. By the way I have asked one mid who he would rather ruck and he said Hickey. That was before Friday night. That proves nothing though as 10 others may say Longer. And if we are a better unit under Longer than that makes this year very disappointing considering our recruits as well as we look like we will win about the same games. Anyway please don't tell I'm not watching the game. I suggest we have very ordinary rucks but luckily they are having less and less impact on games.

Maybe Steven should focus less on his fireside chats with you and more on actually playing well when someone mans him up. Tell him to stop eating all the dimmies because he's getting fat and slow.

Ive always admitted im in 'Team Billy' when it comes to our prefered ruck. But if Hickeys form is ever better than Billys then for our teams sake i just want the ruckman with the best form in our side. No matter who it is.
Think the problem on here sometimes is people are too quick to praise and too quick to write off.
When Hickey had form and Billy was at Sandy half on here wanted Longer traded.
Then the opposite happened when Billy took the number 1 spot. All of a sudden Hickey is trade bait.
Yeah ill admit Hickey absolutely stunk it up the other night. But hes not usually that bad. Hes not a great player by any stretch of the imagination , but he usually gives more than he did the other night around the ground and is a 'handy' ruck option.
Its like when Hickey played that really good game in Tassie Vs North a while ago and peeps were saying " ok we dont need Longer anymore cos Hickeys gonna be great".
Thank f*** we didnt do that.
Im happy with Billy being developed as our first ruck for now, but im not in a hurry to offload all our back up options. I wouldnt be putting a line through Hickeys name just yet.

The bagging out of Hickey by so called supporters is pathetic. The guy has busted a gut for the Saints; has a bad game and people start going on about how shit he is like it's a celebration. It does nothing to help the player or the club. Sure it's an internet forum but surely as a supporter forum we could show support for our players when they're down but no, many see that as the time to sink the boot in the most.

Good post. Longer has been copping this shit for weeks too, although its lessened lately for obvious reasons, but early on it was embarrassing. Few just need to pipe down a little

Nothing wrong with an opinion. Hockey was terrible Friday night. Lost all confidence. Nothing to do with rule changes or him not being big enough. All to do with confidence. What annoys me though is it seems some longer fans were happy to see hickey fail. I'm no longer fan. Don't think he is very good but every time he plays I want him to play well because I follow the saints not barrack against a player.

Anyway we now have 2 ruckman worth very little. Last year we had one late first rounder. The club haven't handled the situation very well at all

Well if people wanted longer to fail that's just as bad. Doesn't mean 2 wrongs make a right. Longers value hasn't dropped but as a combination of both we have lost value compared to last year. Hickey will obviously leave if he can and we will now get stuff all for him.

Only said you weren't watching the game because you're usually the one that uses Billy's stats to back up your argument that he's ordinary when I know you know there's more to the game than just stats.

I don't think it's a case of the club off-loading a ruckman, it's more a case of whether our #2 ( whoever that may be!!!) is prepared to hang around to be second fiddle if they could be #1 at another club.

I was on the Hickey bandwagon after last season's efforts, but the last two weeks Longer has shown definite improvement, especially on his marking around the ground, and I admit I do really like an enforcer in the contest. Hickey was not great on Friday night, ( by no means alone here) but had the excuse of not having played much seniors this year.

Seems to me the club is choosing Longer over Hickey....but what do I know?

Absolutely not, everyone can/should have an opinion, it's after all an internet forum and I support both ruckmen. I simply chronicled everything that has happened since Hickey started playing well last year until he stunk it up on Friday night and many were happy and/or felt vindicated. It's one of the strangest things I've seen since supporting this club and that's saying something because it's been a while.

Hickey was just 10,000 times worse than a shit truck last night. We don't have a very good ruck division, what you wrote above makes him sound like Mumford bred with Naitanui.

Lol, how does saying that what he does in the ruck and inside the packs is "very valuable" somehow make him sound like a Mumford/Nic Nat clone!

If there was such a character I'd be pumping them up a hell of a lot more than that!
