i haven't posted on here in a long long time and im not saying that im never ever wrong but i've got to admit i always loved the way swan went about his footy. since that game in brisbane a few years back actually.

its amazing, i actually never used to mind shackleton, thought he was what we need. How wrong i was...

I was just checking out Weaver's fantasy drafts from the last 3 years (on the trades and drafting board) and came across these gems from 2003. From these reports we had a bumper draft, getting Billy Morrison and Brent Hall as cheap as chips, having both been rated by Weaver as first round picks.

Weaver said:
4. Billy Morrison - Bulldogs

No inside midfielder worth taking. Key position players are the way to go. Can't threaten to go home either. Great draft camp results mark him down as more than a marking forward. Vaults him up the board.

14. Brent Hall - Adelaide

Crows have declared their hand, they want a ruckman. Hall is the only 198cm plus guy worth taking this early. A ruckman-forward type. More a solid junior than a spectacular one.

To be fair, there were very few non father-son players after Hall who were any good either, tall small or in between. It was a crap draft.

The only names after pick 35 who have achieved much were Amon Buchanan, Sam Fisher, Daniel Jackson, Zac Dawson, Michael Rischitelli, Shane Tuck, and Andrew Raines.

The Morrison pick however was a bigger blunder. We could have had David Mundy, Sam Butler, Mathew Moody, Chad Jones, Jay Nash, Jed Adcock or Brad Symes as well as any of the above.

I wasn't pointing out our own drafting blunders, but brought it up more as amazement at how these two players were rated by weaver and no doubt similarly by other people in the know and how with the aid of hindsight we know how wrong it sounds.

Not attacking the club or Weaver, its just interesting.
