What's the big commotion?? Jeez. Other players get a worse deal than he gets. Take a look at Carey. Three opponents every week (when he's playing). I just can't wait till Hirdy gets double teamed week in week out so we can see how good he really is... :)

didnt watch the game tonight?

beat 4 players to kick a goal after being kneed in the head twice, kicked a banana goal with blurred vision

give the bloke credit
hows carey gone the last few weeks?

now now walshy... dont be comparing carey to hird... 2 different players, and dont anyone qoute me please, Carey is better

and not a very well thought up argument, "hows carey going the last few weeks" because i remember one james hird sitting on the bench crying after being injured once.. he had a bad run of injuries then... it happens to the best of em... even bucks:)

and...
he actually beat 1 player, fumbled, re-gained, and had to kick a banana on the right because he has no left foot....

it wasnt that good.. reminded me of cornes a while back, and ronnie burns... all arse...

Yes. Some of the long term injuries he's had has been due to players from teams like yours. :)

Good goals? mmm... Take a look at:

Only difference, Carey is on his non-preferred foot.
Anyway, lets not have this "Carey v Hird" discussion, because they are different types of players and play different styles of footy.;)

Not worthy of the "goal of the year" crap that Triple M were fawning over him for, but a great goal nonetheless, especially considering the circumstances of his knocks to the head.

He looked absolutely smashed when he kicked that goal.

wasnt that good? only beat 1 player?

he had 3 or 4 efforts
it started when adelaide tried to clear the ball, 30 metres away from where hird kicked the goal, hird chopped off smart, nearly stole the mark, the ball spilled free, hird pounced on it, beating two crows, hird knocked the ball out to rama i think, hird sprinted forward, received the pass, fumbled, regained composure and kicked a banana because......he clearly doesnt need a left foot
all this with blurred vision after two knocks to the head

How courageous was young Lalich after getting an elbow to the head, shrugged off the trainers to try & go after the ball, that is real dedication.

How do you know he beat 4 players if you didn't see the game ?

JUBJUB....Walshy was posing a question! Obviously he saw the game, he was asking PiesPremiers the question. It's quite clear that our Collingwood friend wasn't watching the same game we were last night.

Hirdy was bashed from pillar to post, and his goal undoubtedly lifed the side He was ispirational....double-vision and all.

i watched the game mate... with both eyes open...unlike you bomber "friends" of mine...

Cmon, its ridiculous to compare these two champions. Carey has taken some unbelievable punishment over time, and now his body is paying for it. It proves how good he is and he is going to be remembered as one of footy's best, and rightly so!

Hird is also a very tough and couragous player who is going to be remembered as one of footy's best, and rightly so!

Carey gets double and triple teamed (or did, in the past) because he was the key to North's success - stop him and you stop their go-to forward which is a big plus. Essendon has that many options that it would be damn-right stupid to put an extra on him, then have to play a player short for the rest of the ground. If Hird doesnt play well, Lloyd does, if he doesnt, Long does, if he doesnt, Mercuri does, if he doesnt, Lucas does, if he doesnt, Fletcher does.......At Nth, if carey didnt play well, they struggled - thats why he was paid the utmost respect and was double-triple teamed.

For what its worth, IMO Carey has been and at this stage will be remembered as a better player than Hird, not by that much, but definetely better.
