First year player Tom Hislop will miss the remainder of the 2007 season with a stress fracture to his leg and has been placed on the long-term injury list .
Given Tom's unavailability for the remainder of the season, the club has taken the opportunity to also get his shoulder repaired.
He had surgery on his shoulder yesterday which will allow him to be ready for pre-season.
Richard Cole has also been placed on the long term injury list following surgery on his ankle last week.
The surgery identified a split on his bone surface and he will therefore be unable to play for at least eight weeks.
Essendon is yet to elevate anyone to the primary list in place of Tom or Richard.
Meanwhile, number two overall pick in the 2006 draft, Scott Gumbleton, has made it through his final training session and will play his first senior game for Essendon this weekend against Adelaide.
