Don't rate him, myself. Don't rate Miller either.

Would have liked to see Solly or Butcher at this pick, even a project player like Yarran would have been more exciting to me.

Sorry but if Hislop is a better player than Myells Sewell or alot of other guns running around state league I will eat my hat. Seriously Sewell may have a small stature but he dominates the VFL so deserves a go against this injury prone, slow, poor disposal hack who also likes to give away frees. Crap recruiting here.

If Sewell is this great untapped talent then why did ALL clubs overlook him?

Does that mean all the recruiting staff at various clubs are blind?

Maybe he is vastly overrated by football forums.

This post is accurate

If dimma loves him, invite him over for a barbie, but hislop has no place on our list

I guess we need a whipping boy

Saying the footy department knows more than we do as well is crap. Have seen this guy play plenty of times and he has never shown anything. Would love to know how he is "versatile" as stated on the club website?

Why was Barlow overlooked repeatedly until the rookie draft last year when it was obvious to most football forums that he could play AFL?

Not saying Sewell can make it like I said Barlow could, just that the recruiters aren't perfect, and they often get caught up in trying to be too clever.

Should have taken Josh Jenkins with our first pick, then Jakobi, then Miller.

One modern day AFL list cannot carry a Hislop and a King, even if one is a rookie list player.

I WONDER how many of those crucifying Hislop on here were those calling for Jake King, Matthew White and Shane Edwards' scalp at the end of 2009 and again earlier this season????
Who says he can't turn him around!!!

Get a grip on reality ... he was the third pick in the rookie draft. Seriously, for every Michael Barlow, Brodie Moles or james Podsiadly that gets through the system, there is a dozen of Casey Sibisado, Relton Roberts, Jared Oakley-Nicholls, Eddie Prato, Henry Playfair or Taite Siverlock who gets picked up!!!

Yeah, I'll stick up for the lad again.

I saw a couple of his games in the juniors and he was one step ahead of everyone, a real talent in my eyes, but he also looked liked he knew it too.

I just think he has to go back to the basics and try and do them well. Also, he has to realise his limitations (kicking and pace) and work within those, and basically be smarter all round.

If he can really push himself he will come on and surprise. I still have some hope.

Despite sounding like an elf, Taite Silverlock is actually a pretty good player, and if he didn't break his leg would probably be on our senior list by now

Way too early to write off Sibosado too.

I'm not at all a Hislop fan - but if injuries were what were preventing him from developing a tank and playing the midfield extractor role he's best at - then I look forward to seeing whether he can make a difference whilst fully fit.

This is what I don't get... Why delist Hislop when we were going to pick him up again? Just stupid, plain stupid... Hislop sucked the last two years with us, what do they think he is going to do now? He's going to suck again next year.

:thumbsu: Well said!!

How about this for a different perspective on the Hislop rookie spot....

Now i'm not a fan of Hislop at all and can't say i'm totally supportive of the decision however we have heard from FJ and from Dimma himself today that he loves the way Hislop goes about it and he's aggression at the man, etc.

So its got me thinking that although he probably doesn't have the skill or talent to actually play at AFL level, he has been rookied to ensure he stays at the club and keeps the other younger guys in the team honest in regards to training and help make the younger players tougher.

Maybe his role in all this is to be Dimma's 'enforcer' on the training track and is under specific instructions from dimma to go and really attack a certain player at training so as to really toughen the other younger boys up and help their development?

The reason i'm thinking this may be the case is that if we are willing to rookie Miller as a sort of coach/mentor to help develop the young KPP whilst on the rookie list then maybe its a similar concept with Hislop on the rookie list, whereby the benefits of having him around aren't actually seen in his game but rather in the development of the younger players?

Not a big Hislop fan, but am reasonably pleased with the pickup - just like Miller we should think of him as a "training coach" rather than as a player - obviously Miller will be better at this (more mature and - paid as a Rookie - VERY cheap as a FWD line coach). Hislop should help (I hope) the other midfielders to develop their "inner mongrel" ... no team wins a GF without being "bullies" to an extent and our team is still young and a bit too shy ...

Hardwick's entitled to keep Hislop on IMO, I can certainly see his value as insurance - if two of Foley/Jackson/Tuck are out of a game we become short of mature bodied inside mids.

Hardwick knows we need our share of battering rams as well as the silky players.

I'm puzzled as to why we couldn't just offer Miller an assistant coaching role where he also played at Coburg and by doing so get a more long term prospect into the system with his selection...I guess we plan to play him in the seniors at least occasionally.

That's gonna be interesting. ;)

i think people are seriously overestimating the depth of the errr, rookie draft...anyone note that GWS only took 6 of their 9, what does that tellya...I figure that what remains are little more skidmarks on the bowl. tommy is a darn site better than that...close the damn thread it's a D I S G R A C E ...he's a fine young fella

It seems like every thread l open these days... you pussy around telling the mods to close things you dont like. Just dont open it clown.... we dont need you telling us what we can and cant contribute on.

Here's a thought, dont post... because l dont read anything you say either.

I can understand the rationale for keeping him... but Jackson, Foley and Tuck are midfielders. If Slops is in the guts, we're ****ed. He runs as though he's on a treadmill... slowest l've seen and he's careless. Doesnt seem to have much up top, pointless free kicks that really dont do anything to help the young kids either at Coburg or dare l say... in our best 22.

For me, redrafting Hislop, seems to be the first obvious error of the Hardwick reign. Recruiting Miller is understandable due to the lack of experience around the club.

I haven't heard that Hislop is an outstanding trainer. The opposite in fact, with 'poloesque' ideas about offield preparation. (I'm happy to be corrected by people more in the know). So I don't see him as being a role model for the younger guys at training.

I wonder whether it is to do with Dimma being 'fair'. If his injures prevented him from recieving a fair crack at proving himself, or not, last season

A commendable attitude if true but I would have preferred a more hard-nosed approach. If only because an untried kid/VFL player has yet to be proven to be a failure, inspite how many teams overlooked them. And we already have plenty of evidence that Hislop won't make it.

...get over it all you chicken littles...

...its all a storm in a tea cup, and its been done!...

...tommy hislop is now the tigers version of sheedys dean wallis...
