I WONDER how many of those crucifying Hislop on here were those calling for Jake King, Matthew White and Shane Edwards' scalp at the end of 2009 and again earlier this season????
Who says he can't turn him around!!!

Get a grip on reality ... he was the third pick in the rookie draft. Seriously, for every Michael Barlow, Brodie Moles or james Podsiadly that gets through the system, there is a dozen of Casey Sibisado, Relton Roberts, Jared Oakley-Nicholls, Eddie Prato, Henry Playfair or Taite Siverlock who gets picked up!!!

Matt White is still a hack who will be delisted in the near future. King probably in a similar boat, but if he can play the FP role well he may be able to stick around for a little longer.

The rookie picks are a long shot for sure, but why not take a shot on someone rather than a guy who has been on AFL lists since 2006 and never shown a single thing or even look like threatening to break out.

Also he is meant to be a poor trainer so what is going to turn things around now? If he starts playing in our midfield we are well and truly F*****. If he is there for a coaching younger kid type role like Miller then Hardwick needs to seriously reassess using the rookie draft for players and not for potential coaches.

Those bagging Sewell suggesting that he can't be that good because recruiters overlooked him, do the names: Mitchell, Barlow, Boyd, B.Sewell, Wellingham, Foley ring any bells. All not deemed good enough originally by recruiters. The guy won the B&F last year and then had a great year again this year and won the BOG in the grand final. If someone like Webberley goes back to the 2's and gets continuous BOG's he is deemed good enough to play 1's and gets promoted. How come a guy who has been doing this for years can't at least get a shot over someone like Hislop who I don't has ever had a BOG at Coburg.

Disappointing decision because if the guy is winning B&F's and Norm Smith equivalents then I don't care what recruiters see as perceived deficiencies because the fact is he must just be a GOOD FOOTBALLER and deserves a rookie spot at least.

How many AFL recruiters are in the system?

How many times would they have seen Sewell play?

Could it be that Sewell playing in the VFL is at the appropriate level?

Sheedy has been known to gamble big time on drafting decisions and a lot of "experts" had Sewell being drafted by GWS; yet they did not....

Only on the Tigers BF board can pick 45 in the rookie draft produce an overreaction of this magnitude. Gotta love the ferals.:eek::thumbsu::thumbsu:

I like Hislop , gives his all tackles chases hopefully he shows a few others how to be desperate and hard at the footy, glad we rookied him , could still develop into a hardnosed ball winner or defensive forward

Love your work Kyuss :thumbsu:

Should ensure this thread goes at least another 5 pages :)

Don't know what Dimma sees in Hislop. We should have rookied Myles Sewell or Mitch Thorpe but we already have Brad Miller.
Hislop is tough and dives for the ball but M. Sewell is a possession getter and Thorpe is kind of over his injuries and kicks goals

I's not the fact that he is a "rookie pick" it's the fact that he has sub-par skills and attitude and was kept when the Coach over-ruled the recruiters!

...with good reason according to dimma on sen...

...and not because he wanted to upset the recruiters!......

the lad goes hard at the peel thats what i like about him he has balls and dont bother him who's in the way.... thats what we need! our team is soft as butter at the moment wont even put thier head over the ball, i know for a fact this bloke does. you guys wouldn't see that tho cause you all are probably soft thats why you like outside players...... why you think hardwick loves him cause his hard at the nugget! finally getting some players like it the last couple of years

He didn't choose him to upset the recruiters, but he did. It's a bit early in his reign to mimick Sheedy's knack of turning recalcitrants around:rolleyes:

...have you heard the sen interview with dimma?!?...

...and the reasoning behind his decision to pick hislop?!?...

Hislop has been on our list for the past two years, why would it be a recruiting decision
I can't see that Dimma has overruled anyone. The way I see it, it's simply his decision to make, possibly with input from other coaches.

Surely it's a decision of the coaches as to whether or not they want a player to remain on their list. The fact he had to be rookied due to being injured last year is irrelevant, I'd have thought.

Or are you just trying to damatise things?

He was delisted then re-listed??? That's not hard to work out 'I'd have thought'.

WTf does that have to do with his relative abilities. I did and it was the sort of dribble I have heard before in our history over and over again to justify the retention of duds. Hislop is a fair to average VFL player, period. As for his perceived toughness....meh.....you have to get near the ball to display that!

I've wasted enough time on this topic. If he isn't there at the end of next year, and remember the Coach did mention 12 months (he must have doubts), I expect an apology thread will be forthcoming.

Hardwick said on SEN this morning that in his 2 years at the club he has been hindered by injuries and the club believed that he deserved 12 more months. Could it be that after looking at all available players that the club decided, as one, that Hislop was better than anyone else that was available.

Think about it for a second, Hislop was taken pick 45 in the rookie draft, by my count thats equates to being around 140th player taken in the drafts this year. After him there were another 30 or so players taken, now I would love to have people bagging the Hislop selection to go through the list and pick out 5-10 players who will go on and play 100 games. As quite honestly I doubt that there will even be one player that goes on and reaches that mark, in fact I doubt Hislop himself will even do it.

I've got no problem starting an apology thread if Hislop is delisted again in 12 months time, as long as those bagging him are prepared to make a similar thread in 12 months time if he is still on the list.

...I am only questioning how you knew...in your own post/words...

...and was kept when the Coach over-ruled the recruiters!...

...how would you possibly know that was the case?!?!?...

...what is the basis for that statement??!?...

When Francis Jackson was asked re the decision his first response was 'the coach loves him'...not what he could bring to the table.

If he's still on the list I'll be starting one on how the club has gone to the dogs!:D

:rolleyes:NOT sure all oir supporters are soft, you can retarct that right now.
But I think there is some truth to what you say ... the playing list is generally soft!
FFS, Martin and his attack on the ball in year one stood out like dog's balls!!

just have to have a chuckle at this.
seems when the club does things well and what we like its all hardwick. but when its the opposite it cant possibly be dimma, talk about blinkers.
