Her own parents were concerned she made the allegations up, we then find out the venue they visited immediately prior didn't exist, if they went somewhere else they needed fake ID because they were underage, Porter vehemently denies the allegations and is suing the ABC for defamation.

What do you think it means?

Are they concerned she made it up or is it that they didn't want the case to proceed for other reasons?

These days yes. 33 years ago much rarer. Computers/scanners/printers are much better now.
I was going to pubs underage for at least a couple of years before I was legally old enough. On friday arvo's almost our whole form 6 (year 12) maths class hit the pub instead of doing that maths session. Back then no ID was required.

Most of these reports are behind a paywall but I've found this one that isn't.

Yesterday it came out that her parents were worried about the veracity of her claims due to her mental illness. Paul Kelly reported this -

"The concerns of her parents took a different path. The letter said the parents did not support her pursuit of the rape allegations. “They worried that she may have confected or embellished the allegations due to her mental illness.”

Christian Porter, to his credit, never mentioned this though her mental health (ie bipolar and all that goes with that disorder) is integral in this matter as to whether this rape was a figment of her imagination in a delusion state.

Since when have delusions ever been a symptom of bi-polar disorder?
Answer: never

Up to 2% of the population has bipolar disorder, there's going to be a few of us in here who either know it well because we're it or we have close friends/family who are bipolar as I do. I'm real familiar with the extreme highs and lows but I've never seen it manifest in making up a story that happened a long time ago and sticking with it for thirty years. That's not a delusion.

The Federal Court has set up an online file for the Christian Porter v ABC defamation case, you can access the court documents here.

TBH, I never knew his name or who he even was until he held that press conference stating he was the accused man. So NO (not directed at you Kurve), not everyone knew who he was until he held the conference. I've only looked & watched Four Corners episodes on him since he came out. I had no clue there was an AG who was born & bred in W.A. until then so don't go blaming the media for outing him. Not all of us follow politics as closely as most posters do

Thanks for your anecdotal evidence. The parents knew her pretty well I would've thought. I wouldn't be dismissing their concerns so readily. To be clear I lean towards believing Christian Porter but my view isn't set in concrete. I'm thinking about 85% chance he didn't do it and 15% chance he did. That's more equivocal than many in this thread I'm guessing.

Thanks for the anecdotal evidence.
I'm not going to pretend to be a psychologist or specialist in the disorder, nor should political opinion writers like PvO but I've had a long time to observe. Behaviour changes, for example the grandiosity or what they call 'delusions of grandeur' that come usually with the mania, are temporary. Kate's story far as I'm aware was fixed.

As I said above (after edit) her parents knew her well I would've thought. Can we dismiss their concerns so readily? One of my past girlfriends has a son who is bi-polar so I'm also familiar with the disorder. Delusions of grandeur (as experienced by your friend or relative) are only one of at least seven types of delusion seen in bipolar cases. I'm not sure they're all transitory, especially if during such an episode those delusions are committed to pen and paper.

On a side note, how do we know she was called Kate? The court documents you linked us to refer to her as 'AB'. I learnt something else new from reading them BTW. Louise Milligan is a friend of one of Kate's friends. I'm guessing many of you already knew this.

Thanks for that. I see there's an AB and a Kate. For some reason Christian Porter's name doesn't appear. Has it been deleted?

The only thing we've heard directly from her parents is a media release where they welcome any inquiry. Everything else is told by Kate.

If we accept she was telling the truth when she said her parents had concerns, we must accept her account of what happened with Porter.

That site only has SA Schools State team members. Not any other State. And not Uni team members either.

Porter was not on the SA Schools State team
He only went to school in WA.
Of course. Silly me for not reading it properly.

They haven't welcomed an inquiry into the historical rape allegations.

Everything else is told by Kate.

I'm not following your logic. What are you saying? If Kate once said something that turned out to be correct then every other time she spoke it must have been true also? That makes no sense. We already know the bath and the hotel didn't exist for example.

Pretty sure they are temporary states that are related to mood, a 'hardwired' for want of a better word atm delusion is part of a delusion disorder not bipolar. They're extremely rare and she probably wouldn't have been able to hold down a job or even got through uni.

The logic isn't hard to follow. You accept that Kate thought her parents don't believe her, you accept that Kate thought she was raped.

How do we know the bath and hotel (?) don't exist?

I find your your staunch defence of a probable child rapist in the face of substantial supporting evidence hard to relate to.

They welcome 'any' inquiry, do they need to specify the rape allegations in such a short media release? I'd be keeping it brief too if it was my daughter.

I'm saying it isn't fair or consistent to cherry pick bits and pieces of what you want to believe is truthful to discredit her. You can believe in her general honesty in this matter or not.

We already know the bath and the hotel didn't exist for example.
Brace yourself. There's at least one floor of the Langley Wing that had bath and shower.

Yes they have.
No they haven't. When asked if they welcomed an inquiry into their daughter's death they responded in the affirmative. That's not the same as saying they support an inquiry into 33 year old rape allegations that they reportedly believe are confected and embellished.

Have you been reading the thread? It's been discussed in the last few pages. Respond to any posts you disagree with on those points.

I'm yet to see substantial supporting evidence. All I've seen so far is barely reported inconsistencies. Despite that, I said earlier that I believe the probability that that Porter is telling the truth to be 85%. For many others in this thread it seems their stance is a 100% belief he is lying and this will not change regardless of what new evidence appears.

It seems no one has learnt from the other Louise Milligan hit job (Pell) including Milligan herself.

This is my opinion, it's not fixed because I wasn't there and we'll never know what really happened.

Porter has had so many women he might not even have remembered it straight away. Then when and if he did, may not remember details and/or assumed he had consent. And he isn't going to admit it now.
Fair enough. Like I said at #422, Louise Milligan has form too (hitjob on Pell).
