Essendon vs Richmond
Essendon host Richmond tonight at the MCG, in what is looming as one of the most intriguing contests of season 2001.

Last Friday night, Richmond ran out winners over premiership favorites Essendon by 24 points in front of 77,000 fans in what was a shock result which led many to ponder whether or not Sheedy's troops really tried their hardest to win.

I can promise you that Essendon didn't throw the match, and that they will be fired up for this all important return bout.

Essendon welcome back key defender Dustin Fletcher, who missed last week and was sorely missed as Matthew Richardson ran riot and kicked five goals on Sean Wellman. Essendon also get Paul Barnard back from suspension, which should add some muscle to the Don's forward line.

Richmond get number one ruckman Brendon Gale back from an elbow injury, which will release Brad Ottens into the forward line, and give him an opportunity to add to his four he kicked last Friday night.

Last week it was a shootout between the two forward lines, with Matthew Lloyd bagging six and Ottens and Richardson kicking 9 between them.

However, the midfield will be where this game is won, and while Richmond had the heart and desire last week, Essendon have the finals experience and the sheer talent.

Gale should account for Barnes in the ruck, and if he can give the likes of Campbell, Bowedon, Knights, and King first use, Essendon could be in trouble.

It should be a game full of excitement, running, and some damn good football.

Essendon by 13 points.
