Will admit that at about 3:00pm sunday afternoon i was in a pretty filthy mood.

Not that i wasnt expecting to win, but the way those #&*($%mond wiped Freo (btw HOW IN GODS NAME DID WE LOSE TO THEM ON THEIR if you can call it that PERFORMANCE TODAY) id really thought that any chance of making the semis was a long shot.

Well maybe, just maybe that Freo game might turn out to be a blessing in disguise. All weeks been said about how we went into that game 'casually'. It just shows, that no side should be taken lightly. Perhaps that slap in the face woke the players up to that fact. For todays effort was nothing short of sublime. The first second and third efforts, it was like the Daniel Chick disease (you know the one he has, NEVER give up at any stage of the contest) had spread throughout the entire team. Joel Smith actually hit the ball hard and with desire to put his body on the line. Vanders made several Melbourne boys look like nervous whenever the ball was in a mutual area.
Hell BOF didnt play half bad!!!

Well the one thing that really made me smile today was what i hope to see all season, and if they commit to it we can imho really go far. Thats total commitment to make every contest a winner. This was the Hawthorn that weve all been looking forward to for the last season and a half. So long as they know that every side in the league can beat them if they play like they did against Freo, and that they, in turn can beat every side in the league if they play like they did today. Then maybe just maybe, this was the day that the Hawks came of age.

Carn the Mighty Hawks.

Agreed Grendel...must take that attitude into every game.We do have to remember that these guys are only human though ( did I really say that.....Hawthorn footballers only HUMAN !!!)and young ones at that.

Among the dozen or so terrific performances, three things really stood out to me:

-Shaun Rehn got through the game

-Tim Clarke finally got on the paddock

-Tim Hazell showed us a glimpse of what's to come (Grendel, this guy has the sort of stuff that you & I dream of...heart,enough skill, hard at it and TUFFFFFF !)

Still only practice matches in my mind but great signs.

-Rico

How about my main man! Hanging onto marks, kicking quite well! I was quite angry at the whole Sports Tonight once again. They had a chick reporting on the game, and all she could talk about was Ben Dixon, and she mentioned him a couple of times, then finished her report by saying he kicked 5 goals! MMMMMM seem to remember a certain other player kicking 6! Suppose hes not as spunky looking as Dicko! I admit though that Dicko did play a good game!

How about the crowds reaction when Rehn kicked that goal! It was great!

Why did the guy have to change his number
from 16 to 23. Now my username looks stupid

Yep there were so many positives to take from that performance. not least of which was the MONSTAA! How good did the forward line look, even wihtout Dutchy playing a blinder?

I was surprised and impressed with Joel Smith on the hb flank and our run through the middle was very pleasing to watch. A great four quarter effort and the Coronial record continues!

P.S. Pre-season or not, you've gotta love putting Richmond out

Rico spot on. Tims looking very promising indeed. Sort of like a Tassie version of Dermie (now i know thats a wrap, but by christ doesnt he move like the Kid did).

Think he and Bill who both have decent size could really be of bonus for us this year. Neither take a backward step ever and both can use the ball to advantage. More important, thanks be to the selectors for spottin 'natural' footballers rather than 'athletes' all the time.

tha MONSTAA's trimed down somewhat you reckon? But didnt he just look scary with those charging runs at the ball. Smiths huge compared to where he was when he first arrived at Glenferrie. Now this bloke, if he mantains that sort of form will just be the icing on the cake.

Agree with all thats been said in this thread. If the desires maintained at that level all season then this side is capable of delivering some very big results.

Its great feeling great about the Hawks again!

It was a fantastic game. We won pretty much every contest and really i believe that we will make it through to the grand final of this ansett cup and well probably win it. This would be a big boost for the boys if they did win and GOOD LUCK TO THEM.
Well done HAWKERS.
Dutchy is STAR

Bloooooooooody great to read all this positive stuff regarding the attitude of the team & how good they looked it's cheered me up no end.I'm now really looking forward to a good showing once the season proper starts.

PS what position was MONSTAA playing?Personally I have been hoping that he'll get a run at FF

Your wishes were answered Dip. Lead hard and (pretty much) direct all day. A couple of leads to the pockets when not much else on (and a delightful left foot snap from the boundary after one such lead. Wont mention the Out on the full from another lol).

Looked to have trimmed down 5kgs too. All in all he looked a MONSTAARISH site for his opponents on the day.

Cheers.
