I don't think the Stadium will happen! It appears the majority of Tasmanian people don't want it and i'm not certain they want an AFL team either? I can't see the Tassie Devils in the competition by 2028.

The AFL's demands are totally idiotic. They've already announced the team, its start year, appointed a CEO, but they're still saying 'no stadium no team'? They already know the stadium isn't going to be built before the team enters the competition. The government should just stall and stall until 2026 draft night or the first game Tasmania plays then coming out and declaring the stadium cancelled. It's too late for the AFL to do anything then.

There are milestones that need to be met, or the licence gets pulled before reaching the point of the first draft.
The best thing that could happen for the state is for that to happen as soon as possible. That probably means no team, perhaps ever, but the demands are not worth a team.

Well the AFL's got more to lose now. The government's covered, the business case says it isn't worth building. Tell the AFL they aren't building anything and that its the AFL's move now. AFL will be crucified if it pulls out now and will lose millions of dollars.

Just take a leaf out of Crisafulli's playbook and just ****en build it; then watch how good it actually is for the state.

If you sit there whinging about debt, or have deluded designs of building mythological wings on hospitals like what Steven Miles thought he would in Queensland, then you'll either lose the event, or put on something that is a total ****ing embarrassment relative to what it should be.

SA has nearly 2m people in it, Tas has 500,000. Just over 1/2 live in the south so 250,000 people. Our current debt is 4.5 billion dollars (expected to be around 10 billion by 2028 without the stadium) and the projection for this project will add 1.8 billion to that over 10 years. The money will have to be borrowed, and interest paid, by everyone in the state.

The stadium has been assessed at returning between 40-60 cents in the dollar, so you give me 1.2 billion dollars and I give you $600 million back?

Why are the worst posters always Collingwood?

Have you been there? It's a horrible place to watch footy. And there's only 12k seats, which won't be enough.
Yes, I’ve been there. Only 12k seats? How full are the home games realistically going to be? An upgrade if need be, but a new stadium is overkill.

Can't be upgraded as there's no way to get the extra people in and out. It's surrounded by houses.

Has any club ever in history been given such unreasonable demands like Tassie have been given.
I mean who the hell is the AFL to demand not just a stadium but a stadium with a roof.
Tassie should tell the AFL to go heck themselves.

The Tasmanian team was Tasmania's idea. Tasmanian government are paying for it. If after 10 years the Tasmanian government back out, the AFL would be forced to pick uo the bill.

For the Tasmanian team to be anywhere close to successful to the level the AFLA requires, a new stadium would be necessary anyway. And it's cheaper to build it now than in 5 years time.

No roof, play 1.30pm and 4.30pm games in May to August. Could there be a roof like Pat Rafter Arena?
I think you need AFL to pay more. They have many executives who do sweet F?ck all.
Start with Laura Kane, Ned Guy.

Maybe right but what about when they are ready to do it. Why are the AFL demanding it? It’s not as if there is not an AFL ready ground , hawks and Roos been playing in it for years now.
I just don’t believe the AFL should be dealing in ultimatums.

Yeah but if the AFL really wanted a Tassie team they would have done it years ago. This was a major part of the selling point to finally put Tassie in.

I don't believe the AFL really wanted a Tasmanian side to begin with. It's led them along by handing out a "license", but really the whole must have a new roofed stadium thing is just to create an impossibly high bar that makes it too hard for a new Tasmanian team to become a reality.

It's Andrew Wilkie's seat right? It's a pity he's so popular, if Albo thought Labor had a whiff of a chance winning the seat he'd fund it tomorrow

The AFL is trying to do two things.
1. Protect their investment. The Tassie team is going to cost the AFL millions to bring on line. They want to make sure every possibility is there for it to not turn into the Suns mark 2.
2. They want the team to be successful and supported by the community.
The weather is bad in Tassie during winter, as it's colder than Melbourne. They want as many paying supporters as possible to attend the games, and to attract interstate visitors to the games. A world class stadium with a roof is the best way to get that.
