So what do you spend time doing outside of work that you love doing.

Im looking for a new hobby.

I use to play footy and I do really miss playing but it takes a huge toll on the body. I retired few years ago and I havent really filled the void. I need something to do with myself right now thats not too physical

Whats some ideas for hobbies and interest outside of work.

If you're interested in continuing with some sport, futsal and squash have been great for me, not that hard on the body and depending what level you play don't need to be super fit. Others that I enjoy are bush walking, jogging, sex, reading, and scrolling through Big Footy.

I will follow this thread. I play footy so that takes up a couple of nights and Saturday. In saying that, the nights I don’t have footy I do bugger all except watch Netflix and can’t help but feel that’s a waste.

Even though you have stopped playing football are you still involved with the club?

Local footy clubs can never have enough people helping out, could you look at coaching, getting on the committee or just helping out.

Social sports are great for filling voids of fitness/activity/team environment without huge time commitments, but they can still take a toll on the body if you are old and/or injury prone. Indoor sports with hard courts especially. I'm usually OK (touch wood) but I have friends that seem to be rolling ankles every other week.

Small scale DIY, gardening and landscaping is fun if you have a house. I'd love to reno a whole house but can't afford to do that and maintain another house to live in and a full scale reno in a house you are living in is a nightmare.

Punting on the Gee Gees

Rolling ankles is the gayest injury, usually by some prissy kid who realises he's about to lose a race or wears mouthguards for soccer.

Or anyone who plays basketball, ever. I'm far from injury prone these days but I rolled an ankle in Dec '16 and it's still not 100%. I wear a brace now.

I've played futsal all year round for nearly 20 years now, in the past I have rolled ankles but I started strapping my ankles 5-6 years ago and have never had a problem since. Works out around $5 a game.

Rolling ankles seems to be a genetic thing. I do it, mild discomfort then a minute or two later I'm good to go. Others do the same thing and swell up like a mofo. I am a bit suspicious of people who treat every minor injury like they're a professional sportsman, though. What happened to just putting some ice on it and seeing how it goes? Not every rolled ankle requires an MRI.

Because rocking up to footy on the weekend with heavy strapping makes you look and play like Chris Judd. Plus you don't have to do laps, just kicking drills, at training on Thursday.
