Surely Hodge had an idea a few weeks back this was on the cards. Yet we had the drawn out retirement slaps on the back complete with special edition merchandise.

I'm happier not having Hodge for his last two crap years after many good ones than getting Ablett back for his last two crap years after many good ones

Would this affect any compo Brisbane get from Rockliff leaving?
You wouldn't think so. He's essentially the same as any other de-listed player, teams pick them up all the time during trade period. Normally no one notices though.

1 year sounds like a great idea from our perspective but I can't see him doing too well in his second.

Probably still worth a go though.

Not enough posts from Brissy posters. Surely they're a bit happy. Just what they need along with Fages
Massive positive. Exactly what we need. Should free people like Harris Andrews and Rich from having to worry about organising the back line.

I think 2 years is a bit much but I do understand where Brisbane is coming from here as they want on field leadership and they want to build a strong culture.

Surely if this happens he can't get another farewell game.

Really don't like players who retire and come back immediately. Should have to wait at least a season or if they come back immediately should be second tier only for a season.

great news ! he has given so much to the hawks so now a chance to guide and teach and protect our young defence will be fantastic

wont play every game I suppose but his influence will be just what we need

Won't happen but I think Brisbane should go after Jeremy Laidler who has just been delisted. I always thought he was solid, and he would take some of the pressure off Brisbane's younger players.

Playing wise he is pretty much cooked - still got the smarts but is very slow and doesn't even pick the ball up off the ground.

Will definitely help in terms of guidance and on filed leadership though, particularly in organising the backline and maintaining confidence and good decision making in the younger players.

Surely 1 year playing, 1 year coaching?

How much do assistant coaches get paid? Surely he makes far more coin in Melbourne in a whole heap of media gigs, plus speaking engagements, and Im sure Hawthorn would find a few side earners for him as well.
