I'm watching replay of the prelim again now.
It wasn't just the last, towards the end of the 3rd we lifted and looked good.

I am very confident.

6 all Aust, top of ladder, Brownlow medallist, 2 tough finals wins over top 4 sides, a hiccup in a dead rubber.

We will win. No doubt.

We are faster, younger, more manic and they will not let the great MM down.

Cats supporters in GTown already think they have it in the bag.

Just wait, Krak, Taz, Leon, Anvil, Daisy, Heater, Pendles, Swan, Trav, Dawes, Ball, Dids, Beams, Reid, Blair, BJ, Harry, will light up the MCG.

The Cats have had4 soft games in a row after being beaten at home by Sydney. They won't know what him them when the blitzkrieg starts.

On Monday I will be offering my services to help Cats fans remove their flags from their cars.

Ed you are missing one vital point here. Grand finals are NOT about skill and flair, they are about courage and desire.

Those of us old enough all witnessed the skill and flair of Gazza Snr in 89 but it simply wasn't enough.

Against Hawthorn we saw a side refusing to lose, despite its 1st ruck and AA CHB being down for the count, despite one of its most electric on ballers still finding his way back to touch in his first game back.

So often in GF's skill goes out the door and it becomes a wrestle to the death, I'll back Collingwood's desire to win over the Cats flair and risk game any day.

People here saying comfortable 6-7 goal win are delusional, I believe we will win but no one here can say that we are anywhere near the form we showed in the middle part of the season. I agree that sunday is down to who wants it more and not form and I believe we will win but we need to be at our hungry best because this is Geelong's last crack in my books.

I gather you mean the after match drinks. :thumbsu:

Daisy did a great job last year so I think we can be sure he wants it more than the other guys.

(On a serious note of course a comfortable win is delusional, but it would have been before the prelim last year as well.)

You're right Mobbsy, the Cats fan arrogance of 08 and 09 has resurfaced, every prick is carrying on! If we win, i want to hear you playing the Pies theme song on Krock!!!

Will be nothing better than seeing the whole of Geelong silent!

Great post. Power of positive thinking does wonders for wonders for moral.

I LOLled! I agree that something seemed to change towards the end of the 3rd and in the final qtr last week. Intensity i think. I'm confident that this can carry on tomorrow and we can win.

I don't think we've been holding back, I just think we've been coasting for so long that we've forgotten some of the fundamentals about how we got to be such a good team.

The one positive I take out of it is that the last 1 and a half quarters against Hawthorn was some of the best football we've played in a long time under very difficult, high pressure circumstances. Clutch goals, clutch defensive work, gutsy efforts all round. Hawks played out of their skins that night. To make up that much of a difference in a low scoring, highly contested affair was stellar work.

I feel like we began to get back some of the aspects of our game that had been missing, simply out of necessity and circumstance. We began to stick tackles, we went in harder and ran harder, we took the game on a lot more and didn't just kick in hope down the wings, our forward pressure increased, we started switching play a lot more and playing more creatively, we started to become cleverer and executed the switch and used our backline to drive us forward, and perhaps most importantly Daisy got better as the game wore on and he is crucial. We were stunned into action by a hawthorn team that was more hungry and passionate to win and we got a great wake up call.

There's been a lot of talk about that mystical extra gear that great teams have and throughout the past few years we've had very little trouble finding it. For the first three quarters we couldn't find anything, we looked bereft of ideas and energy, maybe we found that gear again in the last quarter and hopefully that carries over to the grand final.

I think a lot of nervous people are severely underselling our beaten finals opponents. Hawthorn were sensational but West Coast were just simply insane, they threw the kitchen sink at us and when that failed to floor us followed up with the dishwasher and the bar fridge.

Both would have pushed the Cats to the brink as they did us on the same days. Finals are a funny beast as any older supporter can attest.

Relax guys its a matter of inches in finals we were spoiled last year and keep expecting the guys to smash top teams again like last year. Well this is the AFL and it ain't a gonna happen peeps.

We have the players and the structures, our best is better than their best. They've been up for a while now and are ripe for the picking.

If we bring our A game we'll win, dragging ourselves clear in the last qtr as the older Cats tire.

You saved me 5 minutes just here. Great post :thumbsu:

I truly believe that we have held back for much of the year. Consequently, it may have compromised our elite fitness. Playing 2 to 3 quarters and winning seems like a perfect formula to remain fresh, but we need to question if it has been to our detriment.

I can assure there was no holding back in our 2 finals though. Both were played at a frenetic pace and we managed to grind out wins. Hawthorn tired in the last which allowed us to play at our best, let's get that clear. They ran in packs all day and applied the sort of pressure we are synonymous for. We got out of jail.

Credit to the boys though, their determination was admirable and if they carry on with that tenacity tomorrow, we can dismantle the Cats. My confidence has grown as the week has progressed and will be backing a Collingwood victory. It will be a Titanic struggle as both team have more than just a premiership to play for.

Can't wait for it!!!!!

For people continually referring to the round 24 game.

We were missing Leon, Maxwell & Heath Shaw from our backline, Tooooooooves was only a couple of games back from finger surgery and Taz got injured.

Our backline was decimated. On top of that, we were without Daisy.

In the finals we've conceded 9 goals in both games. Geelong has conceded 9 & 10 goals. Forget that round 24 game.

If we can play at our best, we'll win. As Paul Roos said "Our best is better then Geelongs best".

We just need to play at our best.

Keep the faith.

Daisy, Maxy, Dawes, Reid just hitting straps.
Taz, Pendles, Swan, Harry,Trav, Ball all in fine form.

If Anvil, Dids, Beams, Tooves, Blair find touch we will be unstoppable.

Cats have had a couple of training runs, incl the Rd 24 'bye' with us.

Maybe, just maybe, the full finals manic pressure will shock the Cats.

Hate to interrupt this fine thread of yours guys, but I got a hypocritical message from your post.
1. You implied that Collingwood were 'holding back' and can turn their game on for the GF, as if form is like a switch that you turn off and on.
2. You then implied that this Geelong team, with more experience than any of the teams atm, are stupid enough to be underprepared after a few easy games? As if they can't turn their switch on just as fast?

I don't understand. You'd think we'd learnt a thing or two after 4 years involving two premierships and two heartbreaks. Our players average more games than any other team, but with that comes lessons learnt in footy. And our boys know firsthand, that you should never underestimate the power of the opposition.

Anyway, good luck you guys, and I hope it's a great game. I know Mick will go out knowing he had a champion team, regardless of the result tomorrow.

Churro with all respect m8 you were prepared for us last year in the finals too. Don't think I need to remind you how that went.

You guys are worthy GF opponents and rightful favorites on exposed form by my friend if you think you have seen any where near the best that this Collingwood side is capable of you are sadly mislead indeed.

Well done, you were the better side at the time last year. Hate to use excuses, but our gameplan which carried us to two premierships failed us. That says more about Mark Thompson's refusing to adjust it, than the ability of our players.

I never said anything about either side's best. I was simply pointing out how hypocritical it was to say that this Collingwood team can easily turn their form around, but Geelong with much more experience are unable to and will be underprepared.

You'd think we'd learnt a lesson or two from '08 and '10 after underestimating the opposition. They'll put in everything no matter what tomorrow. They've learnt their lesson and they've learnt not to take opportunities for granted.

Delussional..lol...hh

They have definitely got into a few bad habits during the year... coasting against most of the teams that they played although they got a percentage that was amazingly high. I think there were disuptions towards the end. The suspensions, the injuries... they certainly disrupted things

I think Mick was trying to give the impression that everything was so controlled and the team took that approach too. Very controlled and not many risks when it came to style...except for those smarty farty attempts to handball through an opposition's wall. I think Didak got ahead of himself playing around with the opposition and he needed to practice concentration for the finals.

I think the Captain was missed for his leadership and his standing in the team improves so much during the finals.

But I have a feeling that the game against the Hawks cleared out the cobwebs ....and they realised that they needed to dig in hard to win

carn the pies
