In the last qtr of Haw vs Ess we saw two times where a player took on the tackler and was tackled over the line.

First Hawthorn who got nothin.

Then Essendon who got the call.

I like the call being made as I hate the boundary line being used as a get out of jail free card by players but considering we 9/10 times see it not paid despite having prior why is this the case?

These are the burning issues that deserve to be in the furnace

Surely it's as simple as timing, if the umpire believes it was a free before it went out it's a free. If they believe not enough time to dispose before it went out, throw in.

Should be as simple as that.

But it's clearly not. See it every week where there's plenty of prior and then the player just absorbs the tackle and steps over the line. Every now and then, it gets pinged.

Even worse, Pendlebury once had a free kick paid against him when there was no prior before the ball went over the line, but his opponent held the tackle whilst out of bounds :astonished:
